Century Arms unveils a very cool surprise - legit FMP rifles built from kits after they bought all the parts kits from Portugal. These Portuguese rifles are true G3 clones without welded optics rails and they include paddle releases and original fire control kits.

As a Portuguese shooter, Wish these made it to the Portuguese Civilian market. Portuguese weapons at 999 USD in the states, when G3 clones sell for over 2k in Portugal lol

I have one gripe concerning this and the PTR GI models without the rail: There's no recoil lug for clamp on rails. If you look at the older rifles, you'll see they have a triangular/trapezoid shaped lug protruding from the front of the drum sight block that interfaces with clamp on optics rails. If you look at the underside of the MFI and B&T claw mounted picatinny rails, you'll see they have a cutout that perfectly lines up with that lug. So few people notice it and I haven't seen any specific cases of the claw mounts sliding forward but the lack of the lug on any non railed receivers concerns me. If you want a guaranteed way to find a picture of the lug, look up JLD era PTR-91s as those were made to the German military receiver pattern that had the lug. When militaries started welding rails on, they would grind the lug off the rear sight block (whole unit was welded on) so the welded rails could sit as far back as possible.

Atlantic firearms just released a video, they are out for sale now. And CA totally screwed this up. Missing the recoil lug AND they said they would make the new receiver look distressed and worn to match the rest of the parts and they DID NOT. it looks terrible with old parts and new flawless ones. Typical century arms...

@@jonc2914 OOF. Can't even blame PTR for the lack of the lug on the receiver because the lug is on the rear sight block assembly and not the receiver blank. Century screws up yet again. They even turned off the comments on that video. I think they knew I was coming LOL. Edit: Upon further viewing, I just noticed that the receiver bulges are rounded on the bottom so they're not even compatible with clamp on optics/rails. It seems they are copying the G3A1 aesthetic. The bulges were originally just strengthening ribs before they adapted them to accept clamp mounts, so I guess that's something of note. Only option for optics here is to weld on a rail.

@@John-qu1vr I'm seeing mixed results for pictures regarding this issue. Some don't have it, but some do kind of have one that's about half the height of the original recoil lug like they're using rear sight blocks that have it improperly sized. The claw mounts will still grab on, but I'm not sure I'd trust it 100% to not scrape it's way forward under recoil.

Well I just got mine. It’s definitely a kit build cosmetically but not too bad. I’m not a fan of the worn sights I’ll have to work on those. It’s not a ptr and you will get your money’s worth out of a ptr as the ca-3 hasn’t got an effective way to mount a scope. Me personally, I don’t like a scope on a g3. Paddle release feels a little wobbly. I don’t think my ptr was as wobbly if not wobbly at all. Trigger feels better than my ptr for some reason though 😂

I want to be excited as I was planning to buy a g3 clone in June however Century seems to have terrible reputation from their cetme rebuilds so I'll have to wait for the reviews

From what I saw on another YT video about this, in the agreement, century agreed to destroy the original receiver and barrel, and PTR would be manufacturing the new ones for the rifles.

Back around 2011, I bought a “new” Century C-91 built on a CETME. After cleaning it and taking it to the range, it cycled ten rounds of DAG 7.62 NATO, locked into battery, and would not release. Nope.

The C308 ( a CTME/HK91 hybrid) and this new model are built by PTR so both are light years ahead of the CETME sporters century "built" on there own.

Luckily, I already have a real Portuguese G3. But I see the lack of a Picatinny rail on top as an issue. People don't want claw mounts. They want easy optic mounting. 🤠
