Penny's is closed now as well. This old, once grand lady, now sits dark, vandalized and rotting...being reclaimed by nature bit by memorable bit. She is missed. We loved you Century, from a manager of Kay Bee Toy and Hobby Shops.

I remember a bunch of my friends and I went there in 1987 and we had a great time. We met some kids there that we still keep in contact with. We were 14 / 15 years old, just teenagers without a care in the world. I miss it.

I shopped there for many years; taking my young sons there so any times--it was a beautiful place. My sons are in their mid-forties, and they now recall it as a magical place. Seeing it become such a soiled vestige of itself is very depressing. Recall its past!

In Germany we don’t have that kind of gigantic malls which makes documentaries such as these twice as interesting. And shocking. An excellently devised and presented feature! 😘👍🌹

This was a day like you could never imagine. People came in droves to spend their hard earned money on frivolous items. This place is literally the size of a small city! Those days seem to be gone but, now this country is experiencing a domestic renaissance, thanks to our new President. Maybe one day soon these places will thrive again. Or at least they will be repurposed. This mall would make a great self contained mini community! Residences, shopping and, leisure.

Rocco Sophie other malls in the Pittsburgh area are thriving. I don’t blame the president, moonbeam didn’t invest in updating the stores. South hills village, Robinson mall, and Ross park mall is all updated. They are constantly changing for the current market. That’s what’s saving them.

@@NewWaveArch90 Dude settle down. Look at the date, man. I wrote that right before the quarantine happened, when things were a little different. Either way, we are far better off with this President than we have been for decades with others.

Thanks for the memories. I forgot about that waterbed shop. I got a queen size out of there in 86 or 87 I can not remember exactly. I got a Klingon knife from cutlery world. and I worked at Manchu Wok for a summer and built bicycles during Christmas down at Toys are Us. My little brother ended up working there to as a manager at the arcade. I loved the cheese steaks from the cheese steak place in the food court. I guess that is why this hits me so hard Century III was a large part of my history. I see it now and it breaks my heart.

I don't think moonbeam is ashamed of themselves. I'm pretty sure they're actually PROUD of themselves killing yet another mall. What if Moonbeam secretly worked for Amazon?

Moonbeam is in it for the money and nothing else. They buy these properties knowing full well they will not put any sort of money and capital into them and instead just string the communities along until there is nothing left. And they're not the only ones.

@White Boy That's the thing. Back when these malls were king, these anchors and stores that are today looked down upon as low market were actually in good standing and well regarded by the shopping public. Management companies all over have struggled for years to adapt, and certain markets never would be able to because the dollars that support those high end tenants just don't exist everywhere.

Great video! This was one of my favorite malls to visit in the Pittsburgh area. Just recently ( March 2020) there is a post on the century 3 Facebook page about someone gaining access . The images are sad, and they stated the mold is so bad you need a respirator. It’s sad this mega shopping center has come to this!

Its a shame Amazon or another On-line retailer doesn't take these abandoned malls and turn them into warehouses or now called fulfilment centers they would have the same criteria they as malls being close to population centers and close to major highways

Thank you for the video, super crazy to see these dead malls, but fully understandable. Jeff Bezos, is the worlds richest man, maybe he should be footing the bill to put life back into these Malls. I wonder if all the online sellers on Amazon, would be willing to have physical store for "free" as long as they were a certain level Amazon seller, one way to maybe revive them. Pretty sure JC Penny are only staying open because its great free advertisement.

I see so many people blaming this on political influence. Wake up. It's the suburban shopper who has made Amazon a trillion dollar plus company. Blame it on the "one stop shopping" locations like Wal Mart. Blame it on the high cost of maintaining malls, thus the need to pass those costs along to the store owners. Blame it on a consumer's ability to order directly online and have their stuff delivered directly to their door without having to leave their homes AND save a few dollars. NO politician is responsible for the mall culture dying and the abandoning of malls, nor will they be able to bring it back. NO ONE. Our habits change. Our needs change. Do I necessarily like it? No. Is that the reality? Yes.
