Side note: They are surprisingly good as a gaming headphone also. The clarity and ability to be Easily driven off a Ps5 controller was suprsing. I have the Pc38x, tygr 300r, ad700x I also have for gaming and these compete. It's odd because they are close back but honestly have a somewhat open sound to me. I used to use mostly close back until i was enlightened, but now I feel suffocated or drowned in them sometimes and these don't do that.

I bought these after seeing your review, wanting to have at least one set of closed back headphones, and for a while, these went down to 79 dollars so I pulled the trigger. Holy freakin cow dude. I found the solution to the somewhat lighter bass with the Ifi Zen Dac V2...it has a slight bass boost button and man. did it make a huge difference. My everyday cans are the Airmotiv GR1s. or were. These compete head to head with the GR1s and they are now my daily driver. Thanks for the review.

Great review man, have any plan to review New Hifiman r9?? Another great close back headphone.

Would certainly love to. Should the right circumstances occur or they just drop into my lap I'll be all iver that. R9s are super interesting.

They made the Edition S a few years ago - maybe 4? - that was a combo open/closed dynamic. The cup covers magnetically attached to go between modes.

Great review man 👌 Is dynamic headphones sounds smaller than big planar headphones, due to have small drivers??

No not necessarily. Driver size does not directly influence the presence of sound and body. Some os the small Koss headphones have very small drivers but can have massive sound. Some huge planar drivers can have a much more narrow and focused sound. It's about how the headphone is built and for what purpose.

Hey man, would you recommend these R7DX to use specifically with a digital piano for playing acustic piano, Rhodes and more...? Will they sound clear and roomy with good spacing and sound stage...? I'm not exactly producing or mixing so I'm not looking for a super flat boring sound, more like something in-between without much color. Any suggestions? Thank you! Great video!

If you are monitoring your piano and don't want a lot of color, I'm not sure the R7DX will work out for you. The Rode NTH100 might be a better option, but it might also be a little too neutral to your taste. If you want a little bit of flavor and large soundstage, and need a closed back (I only assume this) then maybe check out my video on the HE-R7DX. If you want to spend a little more for something a lot more special, check out my video on the T50 Argon MK3 (note that Argons needs a lot of power).

@@MasterMarslander I subbed and watched a couple of your other videos as well as some other reviews from different channels and it seems to me like I'm in between the Rodes nth100, Fostex t50rp/argon or possibly Sennheiser 560s Though I do prefer a closed back. Can you tell me from experience how these headphones sound differently in real use? Are the TP50RP mkiii an upgrade in sound quality from the Rode nth100? (some people online saying the Rode has some build issues and snapping somewhere down the band after 2 mounts.. I guess I could just be more careful.) As for alternatives; please feel free to suggest any model. I personally don't like the AKG models, Bayerdynamic 770s, Sony and Shure monitor I find questionable for different reasons. The honest audiofile recommends the rode nth100 over the Hifiman R7DX. What do you think? Any great headphone choice for a digital piano under $250?

@@Elazarko awesome! Then you have a simple decision to make. Do you want a neutral headphone for accuracy? Get the Rodes. Do you want a huge sounding masterfully tuned powerhouse? Get the Argons. I cannot stress enough how special the Argons are. They are one of the most amazing headphones I own. But again, be aware that the Argons absolutely need a dedicated headphone amplifier. They require a lot of power.
