Just to clarify, Roiland was not "cleared" of anything. The charges were dropped because of insufficient evidence, which proves nothing. As far as the show itself, Roiland's entire contribution to Rick and Morty has been voicing the lead characters for the last 3 or 4 seasons. By all accounts, he has been a disruptive, disinterested, detached presence in the writer's room: angry, insulting, abusive, gross, and generally looking for a fight. He hasn't been on speaking terms with Dan Harmon since season 2. Other than voicing the leads, his departure isn't much of a loss.

Love your channel and appreciate your passion, but I know a fair number of people who work on this show and none of them were surprised or upset when Roiland was let go. The charges against him becoming public were most definitely the final straw with the powers that be when it came to firing him, but there have been many issues compounding for many years. Most of these issues have nothing to do with his personal life and are entirely about workplace behavior. Roiland hasn't had much creative input in the show at all for several years beyond doing the voices. There's a reason the creative team responsible for the show has chosen to continue without him and not push back against his firing. As a creator myself, I wouldn't feel comfortable with the idea of being removed from my own co-creation rather than just having it canceled outright (for any reason, really, justified or not), but the people responsible for the creative direction of the show for the last several seasons are all still there. The voice actor will be different (which is potentially a huge change of course) but that will be the only difference going forward.

I'm surprised to see that season 6 is actually getting released in Australia next week. Maybe a year ago, seasons 1-5 were removed from Australian retailers websites. Too bad for anyone wanting to get the other seasons, I guess.

This reminds me of the James Gunn situation with Disney, and I told one of my friends on our podcast that James Gunn would be back. The charges against Justin caused not only Adult Swim but Hulu to distance themselves from him as well. Never the less, I assume he will be back even if just to do a couple of wrap up seasons and put a satisfying end to Rick and Morty.

Despite the clickbaitiness of the title. I enjoyed this video and tend to agree with you. Hopefully things work themselves out. I will say Seth MacFarlane left American Dad! longer ago then people realize, in the creative sense, and that show now has a second life. Though, he did stay on to continue the voice.

Yeah, but those creepy DMs have been floating around for years and they weren't just made on the spot to coincide with his court case. I remember seeing them back in 2020. It was only a matter of time before his own actions caught up with him, one way or another. I can't speak to the legitimacy of the case, as next to no info outside its creation and its subsequent drop, but the guy has clearly been a weirdo behind the scenes for years. It's not helped by the fact that he had next to no creative input for years.

This situation is a microcosm of what is wrong with modern media. George Lucas has some awesome interviews and quotes about how the art of movies is lost as corporations decree what has to be in them. I have not yet seen season 6 of Rick and Morty. I felt like the seasons have been progressively going downhill and going more for the gross out gags (I know, always a part of the show since the pilot) than for the smart nihilistic sci fi. It's sad to see this unique show fizzle out like this. I can't imagine the show existing without the voice of the 2 main characters. That being said, how is season 6? Any good?

Honestly kind of lost interest in the show. Idk what it is maybe I just outgrew it or something but I’m kind of meh about it. Maybe it’s just taken too long to come out, there hasn’t been a show that I’ve liked in the past that I just lost interest in for no real reason. Like Arrowverse had a steep decline in quality, other shows I was just too busy and had to cut some. Rick and Morty I kind of just stopped caring.

When Seth left Family Guy as a writer, I felt the show took a dip and I personally stopped watching it. I still like to watch the reruns.

In my opinion the last few seasons haven't been very good. Love the first season a lot though.

Simple... Either WB/Adult Swim issue and apology and reinstate him, or, the show dies. I guess we'll see if WB likes money or not.

This last season wasn’t very good. I’ve never been a fan of the improvisational comedy style that Roiland has like in interdimensional cable. The “oh jeez…it’s a pen…I have a pen…look at me….oh jeez…a blue pen…Rick I don’t like this pen…what a pen”. It’s absolutely terrible and they’ve been leaning into that comedy style way too much the last couple seasons. Hopefully with a new voice cast they can steer away from that but I think the writing is on the wall for this show.

[AS] messed up big time when they fired Roiland before he was found guilty. I personally won’t watch any new episode where someone other than Roiland is voicing Rick or Morty. He really should sue [AS] for his fair share of all revenues the show generates, times three (treble damages), plus a big wrongful termination bonus on top.

I will not support a series/company that disables 'innocent until proven guilty'. Otherwise society turns into the Salem Trials. There are enough shows operating with some ethics.

Season 7 is the end of Rick and morty. I didn't like much of season 6 but at least it's out to own on physical media.

I've never seen this show.
