Thank you so much for this review. I’m an argentinian who is living in Miami now, and every time anybody asks me where to go in Argentina I always say Bariloche. For me that place is almost magical.

I agree! I think Bariloche may be the most beautiful resort I've been to. Some of the views of the lakes and jagged mountains when the sun was low and the light was disbursed by light cloud cover, I'll never forget it.

Nice bro, I’m Brazilian and my only snowboarding experience ever was on Tremblant, now I’m looking for places nearby my country to do it again in 2021, it’s great to know that Cerro Catedral is almost 2 times larger than Tremblant because I was afraid to not have a great ski experience like I did in North America
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! There were many Brazilians in Bariloche when we were at Cerro Catedral, so you may feel right at home! Tremblant is a great mountain with an incredible village, but you will definitely find Cerro Catedral to be much larger. The only potential issue is that over the past 10-15 years, Catedral has apparently not had much snow, so the bottom is often not open, and you have to take the chairlift or tram higher up the mountain to where the snow is. Fortunately, they had plenty of snow when we were there last year. The bottom was fully open. And the same thing appeared to be true this year. Glad you want to head back onto the snow!

Nice video, to update your content Cerro Catedral has added a new six-person chairlift in the middle from the base with two for seats chairlift to go to the top where you head Nubes. And also there is a couple of new pistes. So, is improving and you get a better experience. Cheers!

Am going to either Cerro Catedral or Valle Nevado in this mid-August 2023. Still not sure which! Where would you go again this year?
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. Жыл бұрын
If I didn't care about expense or timing, I'd go back to Catedral since I was at Valle Nevado last year. Catedral is bigger and I like the views better. But they both need more snow right now. There's plenty of time until mid-August, so you'll hopefully be fine with either!

That was August 2019. We were told that Catedral has not received as much snow as that in the past decade, but in 2019 and 2020, they certainly received tons of snow. Hopefully it will continue in 2021!

Thanks for this. I'm going there in late August and September. How is the drive up to Cerro Catedral from Bariloche? I'm thinking of renting a car as well.
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. 2 жыл бұрын
The drive is pretty easy. About 25 minutes. The road was well-plowed when we got there, which was a couple days after a major storm, so no issues there. It looks like they're having a good amount of snow this year, so you're going at a perfect time!

@@SkiBoyNY. thank you! Do you recommend that I rent skis at the resort? Or downtown? Last question… was anything particularly difficult because you don’t speak Spanish? I’m trying to learn a bit before I go, but my skills are limited. Thanks for your response 🙏🏽
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. 2 жыл бұрын
@@oakland439 Rental shops in Bariloche were pretty busy in the evening, and shops at the base were predictably busy in the morning, though there didn't seem to be an overly long wait time. Didn't compare prices, but stopped at a rental shop just outside the resort on the main drive in, which wasn't crowded at all, and they spoke English. It was hit or miss as far as English. The lift ticket sales person we dealt with only spoke Spanish. Same with a few sales people in stores. But many spoke English, and either way, everyone was very friendly, so you should be able to manage. Maybe just prepare for Spanish only in key situations like buying lift tickets, etc.

I'm thinking about the possibility of skiing in Argentina next year. Cerro Catedral seems to be situated outside of Bariloche. Is it realistic to stay in Bariloche and ski at Cerro Catedral without renting a car? Are there shuttle buses running between the ski station and Bariloche?
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. 2 жыл бұрын
I believe there's a bus, but not sure how convenient it is. I have a friend who stayed in Bariloche without a car, and he took taxis between Bariloche and Catedral, so that's an option too.

yeah, I went last winter there without renting a car. You can take a Cab or a Remisse (like an Argentinian uber) for less than $20 from Bariloche to Cerro Catedral.

I stayed in one of the cheapest hostels in Bariloche and took a taxi up each day and a bus down. Taxi fare was around $15 and you can ask the hotel/hostel to order it for you, and was twice faster than the bus. I think Bariloche is a great place to stay as you can enjoy great sunset views by the lake after skiing (I was there in mid-September so days were longer), visit the chocolate stores and there is a grill (Alto El Fuego Parrilla) which is super good.

Can you provide me info on where is the best place to purchase lift tickets, where did you book your accommodations, thank you so much, also are there busses running from țown to the mountain
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. Жыл бұрын
We purchased lift tickets at the base of the mountain. It didn't seem like there was a better deal by buying them online in advance. And we found a hotel just by going through a regular booking website. We didn't check Airbnb or VRBO, but maybe we should have. Would definitely do that now to compare. Particularly because we had a car. We were aware of buses from Bariloche but didn't take them since we had a car. But the routes may be available on line. If you go, I hope you get great snow!

How is the meat at the ski resort? Curious since I know Argentina is famous for it
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. Жыл бұрын
We had steak at our hotel - Hotel Casco - and it was delicious. Outside of that, we only had beef in empandas at the resorts, as far as I recall. A local told us that the government retains the best quality meat for the Buenos Aires region. So according to him, the steaks may not be as good in the rest of Argentina. That wasn't true for our hotel in Bariloche, but it was certainly true that the meat in Buenos Aires was top quality. Don Julio steakhouse was one of the best based on quality and value.

Epic bro! i live in Bariloche! and i wanted to ask you something... As a foreigner, you found good or elevated prices?
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We live in New York, where it is already pretty expensive. Don't remember Bariloche being more expensive than New York. At worst, maybe about the same? But the exchange rate was also favorable. Definitely at Don Julio in Buenos Aires, the filet mignon was about twice the size as you would get in New York for half the price! But clothing in Buenos Aires may have been about the same. Burton Catedral seemed to be about the same prices as the U.S.

How is getting there from NYC? I am thinking of planning a trip this July.
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. 2 жыл бұрын
So jealous! Quickest is direct from NYC on either American or Aerolineas Argentinas (11 hours overnight with early morning arrival). Buenos Aires has two airports. One for international flights (EZE) and one for domestic (AEP). Unfortunately, post COVID, the few flights there were from EZE to Bariloche (BRC) are now gone. So you will have to transfer from EZE to AEP for the flight to Bariloche. It may make sense to check out Buenos Aires for a day if you haven't been, and fly to BRC from AEP the next day. AEP borders downtown Buenos Aires, so you will be driving through the city to get there from EZE anyway. It's a 2-3 hour flight to BRC from AEP. Once at BRC, the town of Bariloche is only about 20 min away and Cerro Catedral is about 45 min (20 min from Bariloche). The people there are awesome!
