Cerromar Beach Hotel - construction and early years.

We lived in Dorado Beach from 1970 to 1973. Inspired by the videos linked below, I gathered up some old images of the hotel under construction and after it opened.
It was supposed to be razed years ago but still stands as of January 2018 (according to Google Earth).
It was quite spectacular when it was new. But it's also fascinating to see it now and think back on what was..

Our family made the trip on vacation in '73 Such a beautiful hotel /resort. Just like paradise for a 12 year old !! One of the best memories of my life Almost like going back to the titanic as far as memories.....

I worked here for years in reservations. Lord knows that if i had the money, i would renovate it. This was the best job i ever had...thank you for the memories..i miss it so much !!

Spectacular pics. Thanks for sharing. Like seeing a newborn pics of a person who has grown old and died. As per Google Earth the building has been razed. Maybe it's controversial but the river pool was a little cheesy, I preferred the lawn.

Those were great years there Paul. I remember going there for the weekend in the late 70s and early 80s...I was ten years when I started going, all the young people were out until late, so much fun

Thanks for the information regarding the hotel. I visited and walked through many of the rooms last winter as the fence has been destroyed by the last hurricane. Was very curious what it looked like before, and you have shown others. I will get around to editing and posting some video that I took inside of the hotel.

I will look forward to your video. I don't remember the rooms so much but would love to see the common areas like the dining room, casino, lobby, ballrooms, etc. Might jog some memories. Thanks

Generally all empty, some had some chairs and broken furniture. However was still surprising to see some things still intact in the kitchen areas and main foyer. Video I took is more than 30-50 minutes of exploring and having some issues trying to upload. Will try again this week.

Very sad, it was a great hotel, the River Pool was amazing. I went there from 1973 to 1991, the river pool built in the 1980's was amazing.

It has been said that Cerromar will be demolished and a new JW Marriot will replace but some people are against it because of the historical value of the building hence nothing has happened yet.

My mother Geraldine Palmetto worked in the golf shop. My father Jorge Roberto Rivera managed the restaurant/bar (?)If anyone has information on Roberto Rivera please contact me.

Your parents maybe know my father Viterbo Cardona he worked at the pool since they open until they close their doors. He died 9 years ago

It closed in 2003 and has been abandoned ever since, very stupid because it was a great hotel
