Many would say: "830Kg ... well its enough." When you are working on hights, with materials, tools... no its not. Use only tested equipment.

Thanks for the video. Always wondered what the breaking range would be, roughly.

Thanks for a great video. I hope that we all know that we should use certified equipment, not because non-certified will break, but because of liability. Could you please elaborate on how non-certified quick link failed at thread, I can't find any damage on thread on photo of failed quick link at 1:24 of the video. Also 8kn is force consistent with an open 8mm steel quick link, so are you sure it was closed?

Hi Petar. Yes, the non-certified maillon was closed properly. The damage is not very vell visible on the photo at first sight. With a closer look at it you can see that the thread was stripped (sharp edges disappeared) so it slipped out of the nut.

Thanks for this. Curious if you tested more than one of the non-certified, and was it wrench-tightened? I'd think there would be a possibly broad range of breaking values if you tested five or ten.

Both maillons were only hand-tightened. We tested only one non-certified since we didn´t have more of them. The non-certified maillon come form a climbing area Višňové, Slovakia. Those non-certified maillons began to appear at fixed anchor points! :-O We tested at least that one. We decided to publish results as we consider it pretty dangerous. Maybe we will do more tests at some time in the future...

The certified maillon that was shown in the video is plated or stainless?
@singingrock_official7 жыл бұрын
zinc-plated steel
@jcrotty187 жыл бұрын
Kind of what I thought after perusing your website. I do hope rock climbing route equippers will steer clear of plated steel and instead spend the money on stainless steel hardware which has a much longer life expectancy outdoors then plated steel.

12 or 14 mm maillon - good enough. I'm not counting grams.

... the video talks about kN and breaking load ... : 39,9 kN vs 8,3 kN . So I hope you know how many grams is the difference ... (I help you : about 3000 Kg)
