The incredible thing about Cesar's training is that it's applicable everywhere. His videos have actually helped me be a better kindergarten teacher. I taught ESL to kids ages 5-7 for 4 years, and by learning to manage my own energy, attitude, and presence, and by learning to demand reasonable rules, boundaries, and limitations, I went from feeling like I was "herding cats" to being able to walk into a room full of dozens of high-energy kids and manage the whole place no problem. I learned to guide a kid's energy, rather than try to yell, scold, and force it. And the great thing about this is that the kids were happier! They feel more secure with structure and rules than with chaos. They also learn and concentrate better in that environment. Absolutely everything improved--grades, behavior, attitudes, and enjoyment--when I learned to fix myself as a teacher first.
@annacord9561
@annacord9561 4 жыл бұрын
My first teaching job was remedial math with ESL kids 3rd-8th that had high percentage of learning disabilities. Definitely "herding cats" applied! Then I got a dog that had been abused and would cower in the corner if I even frowned while thinking - not even at her. As I learned to control my energy with her to bring her back to a normal state, I found that being able to turn on/off the energy with the kids worked too. At a later job, one group of 35 2nd graders ran wild with 2 teachers in the room. I could walk in and turn the light off and they would be in rows on the floor in 3 minutes quietly waiting to see what we were going to do!

Yep, the human needs training, because the dog will react to what the human does. The dogs were just doing what she was (unintentionally) telling them to do. She needed to be trained, and the dogs just follow along.

I love that Cesar figures out where a person is emotionally, and psychologically and then taps into that person's strengths. He assesses the person and teaches them to draw from scenarios in their lives where they've felt empowered and teaches them to apply that same energy when they are controlling their dog. Great teachers meet the student where they are, and encourage the student to grow from that place. Cesar is amazing!

The “playing dolls” comment did me in. 😂. Great video. I took my dog on a walk and decided to work with him on a long lead to be less hyper when he knew there was another dog close by I made him sit and stay. While I was walking away a different neighbor says , “ oh he doesn’t want to come with you.” So, I explained the situation. She decided my dog was making the rules. I was proud proving her wrong. We have to keep working on reactivity with other dogs and it did get better that day. I fall apart when things go wrong so I have teach myself to start being calmer. These vids help!

I’m a boerbel breeder and I really hope you have gotten your pup under control and have at a minimum basic obedience down now. I love the breed, but they are very powerful dogs with a definite predilection to be dominant. I do not sell puppies to individuals that don’t have successful experience with boerbels or with other mastiff type breeds. I require a vet reference from a vet that knows the prospective owner and their experience level. The few times I sold to somebody without mastiff experience, I required a paid contract with a good trainer before sale. I do all this to protect the dog, the owner and the public.

Thank you, Cesar! Some people have this idea that loving your pet means giving him affection all the time. When really, that's not love. The intention is done with love in mind, but that's like giving a child candy and fast food and going to bed when they want too. That's not giving a child what it needs to have a good head start in society or in life. No matter how unconventional I am as an adult, I know that it's still good for me to have some type of structure in my life. So yes, dogs like playtime, treats and affection. But give them structure, discipline and leadership first.

But when I didn't give her attention and told her "back" and showed her where I wanted her to step back (behind the border piece between the carpet and tile for foyer). With practice she understood and doesn't want to dart out. I can now carry in my shopping with door wide open and she waits behind that line.😁❤😺

thank you for your training, when we got Ruby out boxer/pit from the pound two months ago, she did not jump up excitedly. Now she does, so we (mainly me) she does, even with out guests. I appreciate how you broke it down and explained what we humans do in our idea of loving our pets, some some cases make them misbehave 😩

Thanks Cesar! I have learned so much from you. Using dog psychology, as you have taught me to do, has allowed me to focus my animal rescue efforts (Alberta Canada) more on keeping "problem" dogs in their home by teaching owners how to fix the unwanted behaviors no matter what the issue is rather than giving their dog away.

This is a video I need to share with people. We had a few instances when new owners turned one of our dogs into total nightmares. They left here well behaved, sweet natured, with no issues at all. One of them came back to us, pulling her owner behind her on the lead, wanting to attack every other dog she encountered, and generally the dog was a mess. We sent the person away (quote from her: "I couldn't keep the dog as I split up with my partner, and no woman can have a dog in the house without a strong man." That alone told us she was useless!). Just one walk later, we could let her run around without a lead, she always came back when called, was great at retrieving sticks, loved playing. Apparently, that woman never let her run free, never played with her. No wonder the dog was going nuts! It then took a few weeks to slowly socialize her with other dogs again. She's now a sweet girl again. It really all comes down to the humans. That woman was not fit to have any kind of animal.

I recently moved to a high traffic apartment complex in Columbus, Ohio! My dogs are now 10 yrs old & have always been reactive. I've been racking my brain trying to comprehend how to deal with this awful issue! The slightest THOUGHT of a noise sends them bellaring explosively at all hours of the day & night - MUCH to my dismay! Meeting people or other dogs is always a potential dangerous situation! I am determined to get a handle on this nightmare! I think I am now beginning to understand how I have created this behavior, and how to stop it! Thank you Cesar! After 10 long years, I MAY finally get to use my Dogs as the Psychiatric Service Dogs I originally needed them to be!

I’ve been using his practices at my job (I work at a pet store, we have a dog daycare) There’s been a lot of change in some dogs, including my own. I really love and believe in his teachings. I’m still working with my dogs, one is almost three years old, the other is almost 4 months old. It’s a work in progress but it’s showing results!

Caesar's way of teaching and relating really teaches you, not only about dogs but also about humans and more specifically about ourselves. sometimes it may not feel comfortable at first, our ego pushes back, but after you accept and open to it you really appreciate the lesson and the respect he showed you by not judging, just really seeing you and then just being real with you... hmmn maybe that's the same content the dog feels.☺🤔😄

One of the biggest problems is our tendency to anthropomorphize our pets- ascribe human emotions to them. Do they feel betrayed? Are they sad when we go to work? Not really. They have a very limited range of emotions and primarily operate on instinct. We are projecting our feelings onto them. Obviously I'm not saying dogs are robots who feel nothing. We know they have personalities and feelings. But they do not have the capacity for reflective thought, and therefore they don't have our problem of overthinking things. When you have a society that denigrates motherhood and promotes pet ownership, you're going to see this happen a lot more- men but especially women who feel as though their pets are their children. If you have that attitude it's going to cause you to turn that animal into a human in your mind & treat it as such. I think the greatest love and respect you can show towards a dog or any other animal is to understand it isn't a human, let it behave as an animal and give it boundaries so it is comfortable. Our farm dogs were all working dogs. We had great respect for them, but they slept outside, ate bones and scraps and they weren't allowed to jump all over visitors or lick us on the mouth. They had a wonderful happy life, running around all day outside doing real work that kept their brains and bodies active, playing with other dogs, getting affection and food from the humans and sleeping in a warm comfortable bed. They weren't allowed in the house unless there was a storm, then we'd let them come into the laundry room because they were scared. I can honestly say that these working dogs were far happier than the pampered hollywood lapdogs people shove inside their apartment and call their "furbabies". So please- if you love dogs (or any animal), give it a job, treat it with respect, don't smother it with your emotional nonsense or treat it like a doll. It will love you far more. And when you have children- they are more important than your pet. That is normal.

Clearly an assumption someone will have children...you do know some people can’t have children right? Why don’t people mind their own business and let others live their life how they want...
@tolsen8212
@tolsen8212 4 жыл бұрын
@@trinbago27 Of course, there's nothing wrong if you can't have kids- I was making a general statement about the way society is going in the West, not having a go at people who love their pets. My wife and I have had trouble conceiving, I said to her that if we end up not having any kids, we will get a couple of dogs and a cat. Obviously they will help fill that void for us. What I'm talking about is the tendency for people to focus more on pets than on children- deciding to have pets instead of kids, then treating those pets as if they were kids. That isn't healthy for anyone involved. Can you see my point? These animals aren't our fur babies, they are domesticated creatures operating primarily on instinct. It's fine to love your pets and they are a blessing for lonely people, but when young people are choosing pets over starting a family, then treating the pets like they're dolls- that's wrong.

very wordy, so few will pay attention. but he is correct. Skip all the opinion about motherhood and your own farm dogs... that has no bearing on readers
@tolsen8212
@tolsen8212 4 жыл бұрын
@@DougHinVA It may not be of interest to you, and people with a short attention span may not want to take the time to read anything longer than one sentence, but I put those things in there for a reason. Mentioning our farm dogs serves two purposes- to provide an example of one way to make animals content and happy; and to show the reader that I'm speaking from experience, that I really do know, love and care for dogs. I also included my opinion on motherhood and my observations on society moving towards pet ownership as a substitute for a family, because I believe it provides context for the statement that people anthropomorphize their pets. My hope is that people will read what I said and perhaps shift their thinking in regards to the priorities their pets have in their life. I think this is a fundamental problem in our culture. Maybe I'm wrong. The thing to remember is that these comments are my personal opinions, they are not edited for readability or brevity, they are not necessarily correct, and they are generalizations that don't apply to every single person. If people don't want to know about my farm dogs or my conservative values that's fine. They can stop reading. But thank you for the feedback, I tend to type these things late at night before bed, and they are not written as succinctly as they might be, so next time I'll try to make my point better.
