Ercoupe was designed to be spin resistant. Most KZfaqrs these days like to claim it is stall proof. Not so.

It’s not KZfaqrs. It literally does not have a published stall speed. The reason it doesn’t spin is because you have to stall to spin. If you stalled an Ercoupe either you exceeded the maneuvering speed or modified the elevator travel.

Add the "fun actor" and the Ercoupe wins hands down.....Oh, it will stall, but won't spin....AND it's a convertible, great for photography like air to air or air to ground.....It's a well built and tough little airplane that will out fly most pilots.....1946 415C, -CF-RGD

Good point. Thanks for watching

The Ercoupe can stall at any airspeed depending on the angle of attack. It is not going to spin easily, but it will drop like a brick. Flying with the canopy open is more enjoyable than almost anything else that you will experience on this Earth.....1946 415C, N99573 KMAN, Idaho

@lynnkramer1211 “Depending on the angle of attack” Which it will never exceed because the elevator is highly limited in travel.

Your claim that the Ercoupe cannot stall is incorrect, as anyone who has ever been checked out to fly one knows. One of the facets of any proper checkout in an Ercoupe is a demonstration of both power off and power on stalls. Every Ercoupe is required to have a placard on the panel stating that the aircraft is inherently incapable of spinning. Your article is substantially correct other than that. However, an article written to compare the attributes of two aircraft should be written by author qualified to do so, which you are clearly not. Do you even hold a pilot’s license?

Numbers on the Ercoupe are very general and not very accurate. My Ercoupe cruised at 118 mph. Faster than most 150s. It will stall but it’s more of a mush and you maintain control because the wing necer completely stalls and the full length ailerons still respond. (Though you’re dropping like a grand piano.) Most Ercoupes do not have rudder pedals. The rudders are interconnected with the ailerons so all turns are perfectly coordinated- thus spins are impossible. It’s a great plane. Lots of fun. Land a 150 at a fly in and nobody looks up. Land an Ercoupe and people flock over. I miss mine!

Haha. You’re probably one of those people who call an incipient spin “a spin”. Mushing is not stalling. Buffeting is not stalling. A positive break with the nose going down in spite of full up elevator is a stall and a properly loaded and rigged Ercoupe will not do that. That’s why it won’t spin. Because if it stalls.. it’s definitely capable of spinning! Are you even a pilot?

@@calvinnickel9995yes I am. With over 200 hours in an Ercoupe. Mine didn’t have rudder pedals. With interconnected controls all turns are perfectly coordinated. You can’t spin in a Coordinated turn even if you are in a stall.
