She is a legend herself for many of Turkish people. She was the reason for many Turkish teenagers to watch Volleyball. She was not only extremely talented but also had the swag. I still remember the time she was asking the referee whether he is watching the game or not :). Or the time her spike accidentally came to the ref and the ref could not continue :D. Turkish national team needs a strong leader like her in these days to become champion. Hande, Zehra, Naz or others are nowhere near Neslihan in terms of the leadership and the character

Her maiden name is Demir, hence the Iron lady pun the Turkish people make, in that demir / temir/ timur/temur/tomir(tomris) all are the variations of the same word in Turkic languages, meaning iron. Ahem a bit of unnecessary tangent there, soz. The rest of her surnames are due to marriage lol.

I could barely recognize her without her gypsy-like wide-open-mouthed gum chewing. Her saying "I would definitely play for the Turkish team again in the olympics, but it won't be fair for the girls" (implying she is better than everyone else even though she does not practice for many years now. It also implies that she does not appreciate the current squads' ongoing success) ended all of my remaining respect for her.

HUH? It could also mean that it wouldn’t be fair BECAUSE she hasn’t been playing for years now so it would be unfair for the girls that have been playing consistently the last few years. Meaning, she wants to give the young players their own opportunity to shine

@@seanitttoooo I also wished she would say such a thing like the way you thought but during the interview her next sentences were about how she was "beating the s**t out of the girls" when they play for the fun after the national team's practices. So, unfortunately I doubt she mean to encourage the young players. PS. the interview was in Turkish and as a Turkish volleyball fan, I assure you there was little to no doubt about how she expressed herself.

@@anilyamann If she were to play against the national team what you said would have made sense. How are you gonna beat the hell out of your teammates if you're playing on the same side? Maybe Sean is right and the young girls need all the experience they can get and she was maybe acknowledging that? She might be arrogant but what you're saying doesn't make sense.
