TheCGBros Presents "The Way Home" by 6KU Studios - Ana crash lands on a dangerous planet and meets a curious creature, Crawley, while waiting for rescue. When Crawley ruins her one-way ticket back, Ana must learn to trust her newfound friend to find the way home. For more information, please see the details and links below:
6KU Studios presents The Way Home, the first DigiPen student short film to be done entirely inside Unreal Engine 4. The film seeks to push the boundaries of stylized animation and define the potential of an animation pipeline in a game engine.

Hi everyone, I'm Clement, one of the 3D environment artists that worked on this animation. The Way Home is actually our final year project at DigiPen Institute of Technology! The reason we did this project was meant to be a farewell gift to each of us as we embark on our own journey to the working industry! The film was done in Unreal Engine 4 as well! With regards to Crawley, the little creature, some of the audience got it right! It is based on Axolotl, an amphibian that is critically endangered. We do appreciate some of your comments for letting us know that it coincidentally look like toothless, we will take note of this as we continue to improve. Nevertheless, we do hope that you will still enjoy the film, a goodbye letter to our friends until we meet again! Cheers!

@@tahuramulla8656 Yeah, as well as the first time Hiccup took Astrid flying. The way she looked up after they went up through the clouds and reached our her hands was almost the exact same way the scene in this animation was done.

It's a dead ringer for a Toothless knock-off. The shape of the head, the shape of the nostrils, eye shape, the little nubbins on the side of the head, even the strategically placed spots on the face are just screaming Toothless. EDIT: There's a fair bit of Bulbasaur in there too. Perhaps more than Toothless, really.

K Channel Well the gravity on that planet seems to be weaker than on earth, since those giant manta ray things could fly and the lady and the creature seemed to be able to jump further than they probably could on Earth. To bring a creature to a place with more gravity than their used to is a bad idea. The creature probably wouldn’t be able to support their own body, their bones might be damaged by the extra weight, his blood vessels might not even be able to get blood to his brain with the extra gravity. Sometimes when astronauts who spend long amounts of time in Zero Gravity come back to Earth, they faint because their blood vessels and heart got used to not having to work as hard to get blood up to the brain. I know the creature is quadrupedal but still, if he got up on his hind legs or sat in the way that he did at the end, his heart might not be able to get enough oxygen to the brain. Plus, i know the lady was able to breathe just fine for a whole month, but Earth’s atmosphere might not be fully compatible for the creature, maybe theres another gas that the creature needs to live but doesn’t have an effect on humans, maybe the amount of nitrogen or another gas isn’t the same on Earth and that could cause the creature to slowly suffocate. If anything like that happens they would have to send the creature back, which would take who knows how long and he still might die because they couldn’t get the gasses in the pod just right for him to breathe comfortably, because all they know about the planet is from that lady who probably didn’t do any tests on the atmosphere. Oof this has become a bit of a long comment :/ But long story short, taking a creature you barely know anything about from an alien planet you also barely know anything about is a bad idea

Because it wouldn't be right. It isn't a pet its a being with intelligence and a home. It helped her and she know where its at. She good. Sometimes we gotta learn how to let go and know that people come in and out of our lives for a reason. The fact that she didn't go out to explore for those 30 days she was there shows her character as a person who has a problem being around others. Plus she was frustrated for being there so long alone and only one of her kind. Why would she put the same thing she went through and burden it upon the little cutie? Smh.

Lovely animation, but... So this young woman comes from a space faring civ whose ships crash, survival gear breaks when dropped and rescue pods land inside active volcanos. She has a bright future... if she's not sucked out into space the next time she goes to the toilet :)

search light It probably couldn’t survive on earth, the planet seems to have weaker gravity than earth and taking a creature and putting it on a planet with stronger gravity is a bad idea, i already explained this all to K Channel on their comment so i dont feel like typing it all again

I think she should have left the device on her wrist with the animal as a keep sake. With the escape pod, she may have been able to fix it, add her picture maybe, and leave it with the animal. This was so sweet.
