If you liked the famous pottery wheel scene in "Ghost," you’ll like this Travelogue episode in the world’s “Porcelain Capital,” Jingdezhen. In Part 1 of 2, the episode unearths the long and intriguing history of the city in Jiangxi that is synonymous with ceramics.

The artistry is astounding, that programme was spell binding as it gave up its secrets of the porcelain history. The other thing was our host attentively listening to an elderly gentleman talking about porcelain, shows wonderful respect, a major difference between east and west, where the western interviewer shows no respect for their better?

This is fantastic! I have been to Jingdezhen a few times, and the narrator is lively, and the twl\o sections get into great detail. I am a collector, American, but my father was born in Beijing in 1910- the last year of the Qing dynasty!!! Of course my favorite is the chicken cups!

in the 80s I was exploring back streets in the then MUCH smaller Wuhan when a wrinkled old man approached me a straw bag with 5/6 porcelain objects to sell. Not understanding a word It took a while and him unwrapping a delicate white vase from its rice paper wrappings for me to understand. To my untrained eye it looked like a simple off white vase with designs of mountains and rivers, all in the same off white, on the outside. As he looked very frail and had a very friendly toothless smile I chose two others, ca beautiful porcelain tea pot and a bowl. i paid him about $50s for all three pieces. . months and 1000s of km's travel across China I left to go back home, gave the three pieces to my gf and forgot about in. Then in 2014 i read an inflight magazine on Cathay Pacific and saw an article on CHINESE CHINA. On landing in HK I called my then ex gf and asked her to take the pieces to an antiques dealer I knew of who I had seen had several Chinese artefacts. Well the following week she called me back bubbling with excitement. The off-white vase actually had magnificent blue embossed scene's of a naval battle INSIDE! in a nutshell, the 3 pieces were valued at $300,000 plus minus, a piece ! She, my Ex gf, thanked me profusely for the 'beautiful' gifts and promised to look after the pieces in a safe at her fathers home (she had been displaying them on the mantelpiece of the fireplace with the many other Guangzhou tea pots I had bought for her collection)

I thought it was called China from the Old Persian word Chini which means the Qin Dynasty, due to them recognizing Qin's hegemony in the region after they unified all the different kingdoms during the warring states era. Edit: I think she's referring to the porcelain not the country, which share the same name but with different etymology

What can you say that hasn’t been said, the artwork is peerless, China has discipline, that’s what’s required to make your country as beautiful as China has done, those traditions are still able to be employed, which is why China will eventually win anything they choose to engage in.
