A massive octopus attacks a diver in Primorsky Krai, in Russia's Far East, wrapping itself around his arms and equipment as he attempts to pry himself from its grasp. The diver eventually frees himself, but the octopus clings on to the diver's camera rig as he tosses it away.

Right! I'm not a mathematician or anything, but 8 against, let's just say 4, because he was definitely using his feet too to try & remove it. Of course, by the time he removed a couple tentacles it already grabbed him with 5 more! Our opposable thumbs don't mean shit against an 8 armed giant!

@@americannobody27 Counter argument! Just like how the effective tow of a car is limited to it's own weight (anymore and it can't get traction) the octopus was in deep water (heh) as soon as the diver got it of the ground. It might be a good swimmer but not against something weighing like 20 times it's own weight (more with the tanks and gear) and wearing flippers. I'm not even sure grabbing the ground would help. If it got a good grab it could definetily win the tug o war but it wouldn't be able to escape unless the diver did something stupid like letting go of the "rope"... Which he did... many times... That octopus is smarter than this guy

Animals know how to hurt each other. How to strike eyes, snout, face, throat, joints, tendons. How to protect themselves against those strikes. The octopus may not understand scuba breathing apparatus the way we do, but it understands that the diver was worried about being hit there.

It's actually really difficult to detach an octopus to something. Detaching one tentacle is pretty easy. But the octopus has many more. Even if you successfully detach an octopus from something, the octopus can do it again with more tentacles.

The diver would probably have no chance if the octopus is serious. He's just curious. I've had many encounters with smaller specimens, and therefore I know how strong the suction power of the tentacles is. A bite isn't fun either. Great animals!😎

They are very well camouflaged, the diver probably didn't see him until he touched him and he turned red, you can see the man tried to shake off the ONE sucker on the ONE tentacle, but it didn't stop the octopus it just came at him harder. I assume he probably didn't see the creature because that is a common thing to happen to divers and snorkelers. They're diving, accidentally come too close to a camouflage octopus, it feels threatened and it attacks.

@@ROrneli Glad to revisit, after a two-year hiatus. Yes. We are the most dangerous animal in the world. When armed and at the ready. Your points are well-taken, but I disagree about the laughter. If you are really PADI certified, you'd realize any potential disruption of a breathing apparatus is a major concern and not a laughing matter. A friend recounted how she got her hand caught in a Giant clam; indeed, her knife saved her; but it was a tenuous situation she never forgot! And was no lightweight, leading groups though the Sahara and to the basecamp at Everest. Be well, Robert.
