For anyone wondering it’s a type of secondary reinforcer (something the animal enjoys), and can also help with hydration as a bonus. Some whales and dolphins like it, others do not, so it wouldn't be given to them. Unflavored jello can also be used in the same way, in addition to a healthy diet, not in place of it.
