Please don't consider buying for retirement, many of my friend already regret because 1) Even if the price goes up, no one will buy your house because most Johorean will buy new development (ask your malaysian friend) 2) Condo maintenance fees are not paid, all investor who don't stay there will not pay, lift breaks down, swimming pool become frog pond 3) Security is not guarding your property, they are the look out for thieves (my tyre was stolen near the guardroom) 4) quality of the material and house are no good, thin walls, power trip, walls cracks (visible when driving by) 5) No matter how reliable the developer is, it is not a guarrantee you will buy a good home (personal experience) 6) staying in malaysia there is a strict period and time limit per year, applying for PR is near impossible Not to say ALL are CON, good point are : cheap food (not so cheap now), more relax further in to malaysia, but not johor, car is cheap but I got stopped by the police 50 times more than in singapore. These are points to consider, it's just my personal point of view and experiences, hope you have better luck but don't be fool by promoter at roadshow. Don't FOMO!

1) Foreigners are restricted to 1 million ringgit property except for undeveloped region in iskandar puteri which are mainly 99 years leasehold. Why are people selling their condos if RTS is about to be completed in 3 years time?

The entire state is swarming with overpriced failed projects, claiming 90% occupancy, yeah, right, I drove around and saw so many 'For Sale' signs multiplying like rabbits. I won't call them ghost cities because I’m sure even the ghosts packed up and left those projects

If you are relocating there fine, you could give a serious thought. However from investment point of view, do not be borthered. There are a lot of better option. Following malaysia has high ownership of housing % according to its population. If so, there will not be rental market, following your pool of local to sell it off in the future is limited edition hence there will be low demand. If malaysia do not handle its currency well, then it will be a tough call to invest in it. Vacation house... dun borther. Too much $$$$ to dump into a vacation house.

My opinion is that our Singapore government should negotiate with malaysia government, allow Singapore to have 1 year special visa that can stay in JB economic zone. I think more singaporean will want to retire in JB this way. I dont recommend buying tgeir property, just rent. Our government must understand that jb economic zone, their hidden agenda are to take over singapore one day. So we must negotiate a better terms for Singapore.

Don’t buy rent brand new condo to stay better. When u buy very hard to sell. Rent for retirement when u still can walk and shop come back SG when u can’t walk or shop. You won’t regret.
