i don't get his study technique does anyone understand what he's doing ?

Maybe the ones he stuck on the wall are highlighted key points. When he read to a certain point, he throws the ball and see if it is that particular key point. It might also have something to do with the order in what he read and hit the note on the wall (some sort of relation). It is a weird technique that is for sure.
