I think a mindset of taking your assigned task as a private business owned by you might be another good incentive to being perfection. In this way, you may treat your job from perspective of an business owner.
Also I found a lot of Asian people avoid socializing with coworkers. I was also born and raised in Taiwan. Then I relocated to the bay area via work. The cultural shock is that: you’ll really need to socialize with your coworkers and people around your org. For example, you’d better to schedule an 1-on-1 with your director of the organization so that he/she knows you and could be your resource too. It’s echoing what Terry said at the end of the clip. You’ll need support from your coworkers for your promotion proposal. At the end of the day, you’ll need to build trust with your team and people around to create a win-win situation.

I don’t agree that acquiring the ability to solve customer problems will automatically makes you a PM. Problem solving are only a part of the PM’s job function. Besides strategic planning, communication skills, and many more skill sets, the understanding of business aspect/requirements and weaving that into your product planning and decision making is crucial. Not every engineer with customer problem solving skillset can transition to a PM.
