OmG. Did you see Burma playing on the mud pile & trying to get Chaba to do the same? She was like a kid herself! I think it was the 1st time in her life she experienced sheer JOY! That video made hearts soar! 💝

Enjoying water and mud is in their innate make-up, elephants are born with that. It's so great they now have Sri Nuan to stabilize them and to lead them in soundness, so wonderful! :)

It's a happy solution, but Lek doesn't choose the nanny. The mother elephant chooses from among any ladies who apply for the job. The mother makes her "yes" or "no," very clear by her behavior.

I's a good thing Burma's tail attached with a strong muscle. She's so content now, it could fly away if it wasn't! 🙂

Nanny is Sri Nuan, she's over 60 years old, she has had no babes of her own for many years now, so she has no milk. But babes comfort-suckle on their nannies, which strengthens their bond. Last Lek said in video, Bunma is nursing Chaba well, her milk is flowing abundantly, and Bunma is eating a great deal, so they are both well fed. Both Bunma and Chaba look so much better since the time of rescue, just one month ago (rescue was Aug.11), it's a great joy to see, and we look forward to them both gaining a good deal of weight more, as they are able, given all the energy they expend. During their very stressful histories, neither being able to thrive at all, both being very underweight and under-fed, they've had to postpone growing, just to survive. So Chaba is small for now 4 mos. of age (born in May) and so is Bunma (16) as we can see by the size of her head and ribcage, especially when comparing her to 12 year old Faa Mai, whose head and ribcage are much bigger. Of course, Faa Mai has had all the food she has needed all along, has had peace, love, family and safety, Faa Mai has been thriving since birth, quite the opposite of dear Bunma. But that tells us that Bunma has much growing herself to do, and growth takes energy and food, lots of it, which I guess will have to wait until babe Chaba is stable and a little older. It is so great they are at ENP!
