Sir - your videos are extremely valuable given the crystal clear explanation of concepts! It took me all of a nanosecond to realize how sensible it is to subscribe to your channel. I would like to know if you have any videos on Adsorption (including Adsroption Equilibria) for both adsorption from gas phase as well as liquid phase. I thank you for any feedback you may have on the topic of Adsorption.

Thanks for all of these. Great explaining! BUT I don't understand why you're making the H values negative for the reactants and positive for the products, since energy has to go into the system for bonds to break and leaves the system when bonds form. Shouldn't the signs be the other way around for H?

Hi Suzanne! It's all about how a 'Formation' reaction is defined. It is the products that are 'formed' in a reaction which is why you add their values in. But you might consider the reactants as being 'unformed' in the reaction. The sign for delta G or delta H for this would be the opposite as that of the formation reaction. Subtracting these values effectively changes the sign. So think of us as taking the following fictitious path for this reaction: reactants --> elements in standard states --> products The 2nd half is exactly what a formation reaction is for the products which, again, is why we add their values. The first half if looked at in reverse would be the formation reactions for the reactants. But looking at it in the forward direction it would have the opposite sign which is why we subtract the formation values for the reactants. Hope this helps!

@@ChadsPrep Wow, that was fast! I'm going to have to stew on this a bit. I might be confusing formations with average bond enthalpies. Thank you so much!
@ChadsPrep
@ChadsPrep 2 жыл бұрын
Yes! Bond enthalpies are defined as the energy to BREAK a bond. Since you break the bonds in the reactants you add in their values. But you form bonds in the products...the opposite of breaking a bond...so you subtract these values and that is why with bond enthalpies it is reactants minus products. I have a lesson on that in chapter 8: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fZdgjaiCs7-3gYU.html Hope this helps!

We’re actually pretty desperate our AP Chem teacher just gave up on us and now we’re relying on your videos to teach ourselves. We have a test tomorrow on buffers, acid base titration, ksp, thermochem, electrochem. At this point we’re desperate lol. Come over and do an AP chem crash course. We take the ap May 26 I think. We’d chip in. Pleaseeeeeee
