Hi Charlie, I have not seen your first video before so I am impressed with the amount of auto control. Do the sound effects ie. horn, brakes etc get programmed in to the computer programme?
@ChadwickModelRailway
@ChadwickModelRailway 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, yes all the sound demands can be programmed into the sequence and then sequences can follow each other. In the two sequences that you watched all the rolling stock finished in their start positions so could simply be run again.

Great video Charlie! I love your layout, it's some nice stuff, I'm looking forward to seeing the viaduct with scenery. Your videos are very pleasant to watch, it's clear you put a lot of time, effort, and thought into them. You've also got a great personality, it feels like I'm listening to an old mate and not some guy on KZfaq. Keep up the great work mate, love from Australia :)

Hi Charlie, just came across your layout and this one video has given me a ton of ideas and answers as I plan to jump back into model railways for the first time in several years. I'm planning a TMD as well and it was already going to look a lot like this, so let's go with imitation being the sincerest form of flattery ;). Definitely going to have to explore Train Controller as well. Thanks for taking the time to share all the great work you've done.

I was talking to my dad about point motors, and his observation was that when points were controlled by rodding, they moved with a loud clunk and the blades snapped across. This is why I am sticking to solenoids (as well as I’ve already fitted them...!). I do enjoy your videos. Thank you.

Great video, Charlie! I do recall the original video.I find that as I progress in the hobby, my wants and tastes change. Nothing wrong at all in wanting to downscale or eliminate altogether a show layout. I was ta a train show in Omaha (Nebraska, USA) just this morning. I find that one of the most enjoyable aspects is just watching the children become enthralled by trains. I only spent $10, and that was on something from the local hobby shop owner. Looking forward to future videos.

Charlie, A nice look back in time at the early layout. From little acorns etc. In the model of the street of house's, I grew up in one of those. Back when black & white T.V. was all the rage. On first viewing I thought the plastic archies might have been Wills kits but now I'm not so sure. These day's where they have large goods yards and points are changed on site. Points are changed by compressed air, the point blades " snap" across. the sound is just like your old point motors. Have exhibited at Warley Exhibition at the N.E.C. going back a few years now. Also 24 years ago this Easter I was part of a team exhibiting a large Scale 7 layout at the Derby Model Railway Exhibition. As they say " Time flies when your having fun." Cheers, Chris Perry.

I see what you mean about the random gunfire, but I agree with Rob McCrain's comment. In the home room, with no other noise about, the points are obvious, but with all the background noise at an exhibition you wouldn't hear them as much. I have nothing but admiration for exhibitors. It's hard enough getting them to run in a fixed position without making them portable! Cheers

Charlie I noticed you had built a Helix into one end of your layout, could you discuss that in one of your videos. As I see it as an essential for building a layout to your size. Seen the videos on Everard Junction where there was Helix’s built but the seemed to be on a larger scale and in his left. If you’ve already made a previous video regarding this subject please advise the date so I can trawl back to find it. Fascinated by this layout, many thanks. Frank Hughes.

Hi Frank, That helix was one that I bought from a retiring modeller. Sadly it was in poor condition and eventually I scraped it. I kept all the track and much of it will be used in my new 12 lane fiddle yard. They are a strange beast and I backed out in the end.

Hi Charlie. Interesting to see this video and it gives me pause for thought about train control or not. Hmmmm.. maybe. I notice you have Kadee type couplings on the locos and (I assume) at least on some coaches and wagons. Does all your stock have Kadee or just some selected items? It's not a cheap option to convert everything to Kadee, so I've not yet decided to go that route. More thinking to do! Unfortunately, I didn't see you at Ally Pally last weekend or I would have said hi.
@ChadwickModelRailway
@ChadwickModelRailway 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, I’m so pleased that you found it useful. With Kaydee’s one cheaper option is to convert just one end of the locos and just the first wagon of your freight train.

Charlie: I am considering the Train Controller Silver Editon. When you set up block detection, I have blocks for sections of track, and also, for each turnout, so a turnout is its own block. You mention something about needing 2 detection sections for a block? Is this true? I set up my block detection so that a point motor can't run whilst a loco or train, is in the turnout block. Am I making a snafu here? Also, with TC Silver, you mentioned the 500pp. manual. Just how involved is it to throw a point in the software, and how much coding is involved?
@ChadwickModelRailway
@ChadwickModelRailway 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, what an interesting question. Personally, I don’t include any point work in blocks. But that’s a personal preference.Train controller silver, is a thoroughly useful piece of software, and no coding is required at all. To operate points however, there must be some kind of interface. Such as a Digitrax DS 64. Regards Charlie

Hi Charlie I see that the battle continues with Tortoise Vs Solenoid point motors for both the fiddle yard and TMD it appears that you're trying to talk yourself into going Tortoise for the entire layout in order to obtain the silence you desire. If my additions are correct you'll need 24 (FY) 13 (TMD) and 2 for the other junction a total of 39 and at GBP190.00 for 12 it is expensive!!! Time to mortgage the house lol. I do sympathize it cost me about $1500.00 for the 43 Cobalt iP Digital Motors on my layout. Looking forward to your future videos Regards Gary

I think the retaining wall comes from either Model Masters or International Models. I think it's Ho scale. I'm pretty sure both companies are no longer trading. At Warley last year it looked like Model Masters was having a closing down sale. Course I may be wrong on both counts!

I think I bought the light fittings from kites lights, Paul. It was just a case of drilling holes and wiring them in. Regards, Charlie

I've noticed you also use the Kadee couplings, as do I. I think they are the best but it cost me over £500 to convert all of my stock and still have some left to do.

Hi Sam, To save a little cash, you can always convert one end of the loco and just the lead wagon of your freight train. I have yet to tackle coaching stock.
@SammoKarm

I considered the option of just doing the ends but then you loose the chance of changing the train. I wanted the availability of variation.

Haven't ever seen a Video on how to determine on much of a incline you can have with 10 to 40 cars is there any general rule on so many cars need this amount of engines for this Max grade? Thanks
@ChadwickModelRailway
@ChadwickModelRailway 5 жыл бұрын
Good question. I’ve always believed that inclines should not be greater than 1 in 50. However, some steam locos just don’t have the power.

Hello Charlie you are just what I’m looking. I would love to do my own video and post it on KZfaq alas I need guidance, I’m not clued up on cameras and worse on computers and how to post it on KZfaq, I’m 70+++?, short on lamp oil, hair and all the other benefits of old age. So I await with great interest how you get on with the affordable Sony camera and you have mentioned doing a video instruction guide on posting on KZfaq. I have been watching your most enjoyable videos for a long time and I await with great interest your forthcoming delectations, Bill.
