What does the brush do? I burn most of my carvings as well, so I was just wondering how the brush helps. Great videos!

Dude can I be your apprentice!!!....I’m from out in bay mills and I’ve really been wanting to learn how to do some carvings. I have my own saws and chaps and I mean I’ll risk cutting a limb off either way so It be awesome if you could teach me a thing or two

Awesome! Seriously though, when you make something for the first time, does it take you several tries, or do you nail it on the first go?

When I make something for the first time it always takes 5 times longer to figure out what not to cut off. I think I have only had 3 carvings in my 5 years of carving that I threw out because there was no hope to save them.

How's that block held up like that?

Do you mean the Block that he cuts the feather out of? He has another block of wood underneath that is tapered ( see 1:10 into video) and he put screws in it up to the main cutting log. And I think that tapered log is secured to a much larger log that is inset into the ground. At least in other videos you see him do that. Often you will see a screw gun in his carving area.
