Cool reaction there......that song.....there isn't any Indian on this planet who wasn't mesmerized by this song when it came out in 1998 ....... i'm just amazed by those beats...don't know how A.R.Rahman mastered those fine beats...that too back in 1998 !!! .....and those visuals just make this song so unique and enjoyable.....and i can just imagine how much u like this song...judging by how you were swaying to those beats .. hehe ...kudos !! for that honest reaction ;) ;D

AR Rehman is amazing, though at this point when I first Chaiyya Chaiyya, I didn't know his name and and didn't connect his other works. It wasn't until Guru that I realized who this man was and that he was responsible for some of favorite songs and movie soundtracks.

They're not 100% meaningless because this song takes part after he sees Moina (Manisha Koirala) and so this song is kind of expressing his feeling of love. They do all relate to how the characters are feeling or the mood. In recent movies now the songs majority of the time dont even express feelings, they actually move the story forward.

As great as the song and melody is, you should check out the lyrics translation. It loses quite a bit in translation, but still its poetry. And ppl who have lived in a tropical country (without AC) will really relate to the metaphor of beckoning a lover to the "paradise in the shade of love"...

I've read the lyrics and they are nice. There used to be a video that had the subs as well. But put on the spot, I could not even summarize the lyrics. Though, Sometimes as a non-Hindi fan, I remember lyrics as great, decent, confusing, funny, bad and I may remember the main message of the song but I can't tell you the lyrics, word for word.

both are western awards .why we Indian value western awards more than any other awards . maybe colonial hangover . remember westerner gives awards for serving their interest and by no means west represent world . I checked it out and to me, it doesn't sound like Chaiyya Chaiyya. But for Munni Badnaam Hui, you can hears parts in the original song. Funny/weird/nteresting that it came from that type of song.
