Synopsis:
The film revolves around the emotional journey of two teachers Vidya (Shabana Azmi) and Jyoti (Juhi Chawla) who are serving at a Mumbai-based high school. Their passion and love for teaching bonds them with their students. Their gratification is good grades and the moral values they strive to impart to students. However, in an evil turn of events, a wicked lady, Kamini Gupta (Divya Dutta), is appointed as the principal, thus changing the fate of the administration.
Vidya is one of the senior staff members at this fair to middling educational institution, which has thus far functioned smoothly under the able hands of Principal Indu Shastry (Zarina Wahab). Everything changes with the appointment of the new principal. The teachers face unpleasant surprises when the popular and considerate Indu is replaced by the ambitious and cut-throat Kamini, who aspires to upscale this middle-class school. Teachers' chairs are removed from the classrooms, the tea is no longer free and subjects are juggled so that, for example, the overweight Hindi teacher is now assigned physical training spoiling the whole dynamics of the school.
All of this is too much for the good-hearted Vidya, who suffers a heart attack after a sudden and unfair dismissal. In solidarity, her friend and colleague Jyoti decides to take on Kamini and the misdirected board of trustees, led by Anmol (Arya Babbar). This entails using a TV channel as a platform for reminding viewers that teachers need support, recognition and more pay.
The drama ends with a recovered Vidya and Jyoti taking on a Who Wants to Be A Millionaire-style quiz to win 5 crore rupees. The trade-off is that if they lose, they will have to accept their termination and leave their profession respectively. Vidya and Jyoti use their talents and win the quiz battle. Unwillingly, the trustee Anmol signs the bank cheque of 5 crore rupees. The principal Kamini apologizes to Vidya and Jyoti publicly on the TV show. At the end, Vidya reveals that she will be handing over the money to former principal Indu to build a school where no teacher will be discriminated against and students will have a good education for less cost.

I was a teacher in private school and the situation was same as in movie..no chair in the class room, no break between 1 to 8 periods...no separate wash room for teachers ..so I resigned...teaching my hobby so I started coaching classes..now I am fully satisfy..

So true! I cried a lot because it's my mirror. No full salary, no chair, no AC/ coler in staff room, no annual increments, the list of NO is very long. And its No longer a noble profession. The most exploited profession. Those who disliked this movie, they must b from the management or those e who do not wana accept the fact.

My dad was teacher...he was most admired teacher through out his professional life ..last year when my dad left this world, 30 to 35 year old batch students came for his funeral when they came to know about his demise ..we have good recognition in the society because of my dad's profession..after one year also many people calling us and asking about our well being ...tears rolling after watching this ...cried lot ..

Being a student for 10 years who has studied at 6 different schools, I've met both bad and good teachers but the number of good teachers are astonishingly high. My geography teacher from 5th grade, math teacher from 2nd grade, art teacher from 3rd abd 4th grade, English teacher from 6th and 7th grade, science teacher from 2nd teacher, kindergarten's class teacher and Bengali teacher from 1st and 2nd grade are few of the teachers who have a different place in my heart. Lots of love and respect, my teachers. Thanks for helping me grow and teaching me everything with utmost care 💕💕💕

I haven't cried so much in any movie so far, I've almost cried the whole movie... This movie is really heart touching... I once used to see my teachers as baddest of all because they were strict to us in school and college... But today I respect those same teachers and want to give my salutations to them wholeheartedly.. And also say a huge thanks for their dedication which is the least I can do... So True. Everywhere there is politics and I have been part of the same, being an Asst Prof or a PGT for 14 years. But we have to keep moving as I have been doing and will continue my life moving ahead leaving the past behind. Hats off to the director for such a wonderful movie showing the truth. I still remember the teachers who taught me from school till today's education. I am still in contact with all of them. I salute and love my and all the teachers in this world. It is one of the most respected professions. I still miss my profession and my PG, UG, and school-going students in my 14 years of teaching career. Among those are now parents, some researchers, and renowned scientists in various fields. I feel that as my reward "Guru Dakshina" from their side and am glad to see them grow to heights. Love you and miss u all.

In the school teachers are second parents.... I'm very to happy im a teacher.... I was also faced some problem in the school.... When i watching movie That time realy emotional... How sweet, wish I had teachers like this who really taught and loved children. Several times my teachers slapped me for no reason in school and called me stupid to humiliate, several times I got depressed. Whatever it may be, I am glad to move forward in life despite everything that happened, meet new mentors who teach real-world skills and are not dominant but humble. :)

This is the present scenario in all private schools and this movie has depicted it so well, being a teacher is not an easy task and the problems teachers are facing these days is something to be highlighted. We get pressure from not just the management but the parents as well. Earlier teachers were held with utmost respect and importance but now we are just workers.

Such a wonderful movie. Only teachers can feel it. Specially the interview session of Juhi Chawla. She is absolutely right on everything she said about students that they forget their teachers when they pass out from school and the education system that is meant to exploit teachers and children as well and the last dialouge delivered by Shabana Azmi that how both parents and teachers suffer to get knowledge. Our society really needs experienced and trained teachers not the teachers with mere certificates.
