The entire content was so creative and informative! The additions of the little corbels and the marble top made it achieve a very unique look!! Using salt wash as a gesso is def on my list of things to try soon!! And I thought the sanding of the edges on the marble to add a ‘wear’ feel and look was absolute genius!! Another great project Jonathon!!! Bravo…risk it for a biscuit indeed!!!👏🏻❤️💃🏼😻

I LOVE watching you for inspiration. Right now I'm struggling with an antique Chinese 'Library" piece I have. The once vibrant colors have all faded into something very drab, it's been misused and needed some repairs, and it lost most of it's pulls. The top has wood lattice in front of glass in the doors and glass shelves. The bottom has a pull-out desk. The whole piece used to be beautiful black lacquer with vibrant colors over it. On the bottom, it has raised images . I took a pic of it and the camera grabbed the colors and showed me what it must've looked like new. I was blown away. The colors are amazing. I'd like to recreate the colors for the top but I've no idea how or where to begin, so I'm here getting inspiration.

I loved the transformation of this side table the marble looking top was spot on with the aged patina , although for me I would liked the look of the solid paint job rather than the distressed look but I know so many people prefer that look also. Another fabulous work of art Jonathan.

Awesome!!! I get so excited watching you create. The coffee is perfect. The entire piece is so elegant! It makes me want to do a piece, too. I’ve done marble finishes. I once marbleized an ugly vinyl floor. My son’s girlfriend got down to look under the baseboard heater because she didn’t believe it was painted. 🤣 ❤ Shirler

I typically love your work. I adore your color choices in this project as well as your decisions to bring balance to the design of this piece. My only suggestion is to remember the excellent advise of Coco Chanel related to less is more. Keep bringing on the 😅tutorials and giving voice to your critical thinking process around your choices. Sometimes, as in this case, I have more take aways when I don't agree with all your choices!

Yes that’s a great call you’re right it does make it more stable the other way round it’s just when it’s wet or moisture it is added it becomes kind of unstable then once it’s dried and cured then waxed it becomes really tough it’s one of those weird conundrums 🥴😊😊😊

Howdy from Texas! You are absolutely one of my favorite furniture artist's, I learn so much watching you. I have never used Salt wash or gesso, can you tell me if the gesso is as unstable when you add wet paint on top of it as the salt wash gesso? Thanks so much :)
@JonathonMarcMendesPaintedLove
@JonathonMarcMendesPaintedLove 2 жыл бұрын
Yes that’s a great question gesso when wet becomes unstable so you have to be careful with your next layer of slightly watered down chalk paint you will need to leave that to dry each step that I went through I allowed everything to dry it’s the salt wash gesso that allows you to destress in this really natural way when wet but once everything dries after you finished your distressing technique everything comes really stable gesso really sticks and once waxed becomes really consolidated and tough hope this makes sense 😊😊😊

I love this piece. It's very close to what I plan for my two bedside tables. Using salt wash as a a kind of gesso is brilliant. I'm chuckling a bit because I live in Italy and have two bureaus + the two bedside stands with marble tops. Black with tiny grey veins. However, those tops are ubiquitous in Italy and after 20 years I find them banal and boring, so I plan to paint them. I'm incredibly jealous of your massive Annie Sloan paint supply. You seem to have full liters of every single color. Last of all, when I heard your cat, I thought it was one of mine. 😂😹😹

I,m a big fan of Amy Howard, do you know her? She developed a product called cracked gesso and after painting over that layer with paint then she wets it with so called cracked patina to make it chip.You could make strong tea instead someone suggested to have a more aged effect. I,m going to try the saltwash, good idea. Good video

Jonathon,this chippy technique is so fun and authentic looking. I want to try salt washing a piece of furniture. Did you just add water to the salt wash powder or did you put a white primer in as well? Thanks for taking the time and sharing your talent, you are brilliant!

Thank you and it’s a great question yes it was just water to create a paint like consistency It will go on slightly translucent and it’s wet but it dries almost white and it will be on stable while sweat that’s how it just dressed really beautifully but once it’s all dried and whacked it becomes very stable

Delightful piece, much better balance that it desperately needed. Well done!!! It a bit over distressed for my taste but I love the color.

Hi I love all your works, I ve got a question how many layers of duck egg have you applied? One or twice.

Great question really you only want to use one thin layer but try to get decent coverage if you do more than one it will be slightly more difficult to remove from the chippy look but if you don’t want as much chippiness then give it another half past 😊😊
