Howie joins Chris from the road! As Chris is in Nashville, Howie jumps on for a conversation about football and fatherhood. Chris and Howie start off with a few stories of Chris' childhood when Howie took the family camping and roadtripping for a summer. Howie gets into what an offseason training regime looked like in the 1980s, the drills he liked to do and workouts that helped him prepare for football season. Chris brings up Justin Fields and CJ Stroud's recent trip to Morocco, how non-teammates interacted during Howie's playing days and a few differences between today's NFL game and the NFL in the 1980s and early 90s. Howie weighs in on Joe Burrow walking Vogue's Paris fashion show and who the coolest players were in Howie's era (surprise, it was Bo Jackson). We then get into some current football, with Howie giving his opinion on the Raiders 2024 season outlook, the tough task the Chiefs have of attempting a 3peat and how the Cowboys can be successful this season. Chris and Howie both discuss their excitement to see Tom Brady and Bill Belichick in their respective media roles this season and then we play a little game with Howie called 'Explain Things to My Dad' where we name a few current trending topics and have explain them to Howie. Enjoy!

Yo Howie, I'm a lifelong Raiders fan who was a smokejumper up in Missoula. I remember you walking around the base. But I didn't have a chance to meet you. I just want to thank you for coming to see us.

I truly enjoyed the father talk and 80s football stories. My brother was high school football star. We saw a lot of Howie L, Lyle A, Terry B and of course Marino. The Lyle stories are great. We also watched all your dads movies. I hope your podcast continues to grow and hopefully we still see Kyle. Maybe Howie Jr. will be on as well.

Chiefs aren't as deep at LB without Willie Gay, but Willie was basically demoted to a rotational role, last year. L'Jarius Sneed is a great player, but they have a great DB corps, and they're all assassins. It won't be exactly the same without him When I look at the team build, they have as good a chance to win the next Super Bowl as they've had in any of the last 5 or 6 years. I don't think they'll win it the same way as they won the last two. I think their long-ball percentages will go up. I think that will help their running game. Even without a big bump in downfield completion percentage, I think they may also run the ball better, because whoever wins the job at LT (Probably Wanya Morris) is going to be more athletic than anybody they've had since Eric Fisher, and Fisher didn't have a top-5 interior line next to him. They might add smash-mouth to their arsenal, this year. The Chiefs stole a march on the rest of the league with the Tyreek Hill trade. Maybe two or three marches. I think they've been very innovative with their team builds. Veach's crew seems to be among the best at identifying deeper positions in the draft and --------- I never liked John Elway, but as a Chiefs fan, I think he was the best QB they faced, year in and year out, for well over a decade. I can't imagine Howie Long socializing with John Elway during their mutual playing days, and neither can Howie. But nowadays, with social media, it's a lot different. --------- Nowadays, I think there are more players who treat the NFL as a year-round job, like Howie did. He came to camp in shape. I wonder how this will evolve. The NFLPA is pushing to change OTAs, maybe even do away with them, entirely. I think the sport, itself, really benefits from the overall fitness of the players, now, compared to the '80s or before. I wonder if that would suffer if they dialed-back some or all of the OTA's.

I don't see how this seperate cap is going to work. If you say the cap is 60 mil then every QB is going to want 60 mil. With the increase in games it is going to be hard to field a full team all year. They need to go from 53 players to 64 - 69 players. That will give teams the ability to rest or rehab 11 - 16 players and still have a team on the field. The other thing that needs to be added is a developmental squad. 15 - 20 players on the squad. Can be put on the squad without going through waivers. They have to go on the squad after being drafted. When they transition to the practice squad, then they follow the existing rules. But while they are on the DS they are protected. They can not be poached by other teams. They would have a 2 year limit on the DS. Too many times teams with high draft picks don't have time to get a player developed before they are poached by other teams. Thanks for the video. I love when you have your Dad on the show. Howie was one of my favorite players and loved it when he transitioned to the Sunday shows.

I agree. They need to expand the 53 by at least 5 players. 10 would be much better & the practice squad should probably expand to 18-20 players.

54:00........Tired of this Greenlaw argument. Chiefs lost their 2nd best pass rusher in the AFC Championship; Charles O. Chiefs were down defenders to. 9ers best LB Fred Warner was guarding Kelce that whole 2nd half. U think Greenlaw would have done better? I doubt it. One player besides elite QBs dont change an outcome of a game. #ChiefsKingdom
