We're sat for a first time watch of CHALLENGERS! It's the most tantalizing match of the year and you know exactly what we're here for because we don't know a THING about tennis, but we could watch these boys bounce balls all day. Zendaya, Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist are serving the sexiest love triangle of the century. 🥵💛🎾

i don’t think tashi disliked art, i do think she loved/loves him, but i feel like she might have gotten bored in their relationship because she needs and wants someone to challenge her. patrick is annoying as hell but they get each other, like he said when he picked her up in his car. i also don’t think the racket gesture patrick did that means they fucked was necessarily malicious in like everyyy way. this mirrors what they said during the churro scene - “it’s nice to see you lit up about something, even if it’s my girlfriend”. he did it to rile art up but because he knew he needed that to get the encouragement to take tennis seriously again, or rather, have fun again, and then art actually started enjoying the match and was excited for it. he even smiled back to patrick. patrick gets him like no one does, too.

It’s quite obvious that she does have affection for him and it’s not as if she loves Patrick either. @@Lari_A i genuinely don't understand why people think she hates him lol. it literally pains her to say that if he loses she'll leave him AND she says "is that what you wanted to hear?". she sleeps with patrick to make him lose (literally after they were done having sex she goes back to talking about him losing). i think it's more likely that she resents him bc of his opportunity to play tennis and be great at it which she can't do. i don't think it's a coincidence that when she sleeps with patrick in atlanta she's watching the news where first they say he's playing amazingly and on track to win the us open and then they praise anna mueller (i also think art lost the us open bc of tashi and patrick).

Earlier in the movie when Tashi said tennis is a relationship and it’s like being in love and for one second her game was actually about tennis, that’s how the ending was. That’s why the crowd and her got so excited because it was great tennis to watch. I’m not quite sure if Art actually won or not, maybe he did but I think at the end they got closer again and they’ll all 3 be together again.

Technically, we don't know who won at the end! In tennis, in a "tie break" the first player to win 7 points, by two, wins the tiebreak and the last rally they had before they hugged was for the 1st point (of the seven), which Patrick won (because Art touched the net). Tashi screamed because with that last exchange, she just witnessed tennis at its finest and she LOVED IT!! So, basically, we could say tennis won in the end lol (pls correct me if I got the rules wrong)

Also, tashi's reaction at the end to the match is just all she's ever wanted. She just wants to watch some good fucking tennis! She wants to see the relationship formed between two players when they play, like she describes at the party. Tennis is tashi's true lover. It's her high, her sex. Tennis is sex, but she wants great fucking sex. The end of the last match is the only other time she's screamed other than her own match in the movie.

patrick provoked art by telling him he fucked tashi because thats the only thing that could get him fired up and get him to actually play the game. if anything patrick cares so much about art, all the shit they're doing is for him. yes tashi might have a god complex but imagine being with someone who refuses to take you off their pedestal... sorry but the whole trio is messy art included. love this movie so much! definitely feel like it's deserving of multiple watches, to get various perspectives.

Agreed. That's why he confronted Tashi in the car that asking him to throw the game "for Art" is unforgivable. To athletes, knowing that you win because the other party didn't try is beyond insulting and way more damaging to our ego than actually losing. And he doesn't want to do that to Art. As much of an asshole Patrick is, nothing he says is wrong about their relationship. On first viewing it seems like Patrick is playing mind games with both Art and Tashi, but when I rewatched it, I can buy that he had always been genuine. He actually misses his friend when he goes to visit him in the sauna, he's just a bit juvenile about it. And he genuinely believes Tashi can coach him because of his (occasionally undeserved) self-confidence. If he really wanted to play mind games he would have made the offer in front of Art. And ultimately, he's just really horny and wanted to fuck her. If he wanted to play mind games he would have exposed this to Art much sooner. So it's not about winning the match through mind games, he's just like that since the beginning. So when he ended up provoking art by the end, I take it as that being his last chance to bring Art back to life, since that's probably the last time they are ever gonna get to play together. I genuinely believe that it pains Patrick to see Art so lifeless on the field. It's also kinda ironic how the girl who understands that tennis is a relationship doesn't know any relationship except in tennis. And I think the situation actually resolves nicely. Ultimately, the fallout doesn't matter, because the important thing is that Art is back, the relationship with Patrick is rekindled, Tashi gets to watch some good fucking tennis, and there is life in the trio again. Art and Patrick being back together IS the resolution. Notice how Art is smiling, it's the same playful youthful smile from when they were teenagers, no regrets, no malice. And only when he smiles does Patrick smiles. Speaking from experience (and I am painfully aware how controversial this sounds), the relationship that's formed in boarding school, that shit is almost as strong as a marriage.

Remember Tashi loves tennis because it’s like being in a relationship to her. And that's why i think shes mite sexually attracted to Patrick. Because he pushes back. But she doesnt love Patrick because he lacks drive for himself. Art is too much of a little puppy dog always following her around. Which makes him more moldable to train him. But they lack the passion together. But hes Tashi’s only connection to tennis, which is why she puts up with him. She has to live vicariously through him. And thats why shes so frustrated with him wanting to give up and retire. Cause it’s like shes giving up and retiring.
@nataliajimenez1870
@nataliajimenez1870 2 ай бұрын
The solution for Tashi was to become an independent coach. She already was highly successful with Art, she could be successful with anybody else that is hungry. And she can let Art retire and she can fuck anybody she wants without feeling guilty. The realization that Tashi can be a coach of somebody else in addition to Art finally pushing back against Tashi's wishes could even save their marriage. Like you said, she needs someone that pushes back when she's on her bs, but that recognizes when she has good ideas. That's also why becoming a throuple could be a good solution: Patrick is able to push back and bring passion while Art is more loving; Patrick needs someone that can teach him to be more disciplined so that he can finally find success in the sport, and Art can benefit from someone that's loving like Patrick and he can be a person that grounds the fire that Patrick and Tashi are while they bring passion to his life. Luca has said that the epilogue should be that the 3 return to the hotel room and finish what they started 13 years earlier

This is probably the most interesting love triangle I've seen since maybe The Favourite? They all have this invisible magnet that brings all 3 of them together. Patrick brings up a fire in Tashi and Art that they hate to admit but can't resist, Tashi and Pat are willing to do a lot for Art (trying to make Patrick lose and telling him he misses playing with him) Art gets a huge amount of motivation from them even if it comes off mean or cold, and Tashi loves to control Pat & Art. Like without her who knows if they would've acknowledged the sexual tension between them and also they gave her a good ass game of tennis. They even both match her sliding move towards the end. They can try to separate themselves from each other but they will still run right back. Gonna be honest this film had me so on edge for 2 hours straight in the theater that after it ended I then realized how cold the room was. It's definitely a film to rewatch to catch onto what could be easily missed on first watch.

This movie is about people who get off on winning. Not just in tennis but everything. When Tashi fucked Patrick she did it so she “art” would win. Her love of tennis and control, there love for her and being the best. It’s all about winning. Their competitive nature is what turns them on.

It's so interesting how different people take different things from this movie. I know Patrick is an asshole, but I feel like he KNOWS he is. He owns it and he stood up to Tashi saying I'm not your fanboy I'm your equal... she didn't like that. She wanted Art because he was a puppy that worshipped her and Patrick wasn't going to play that game. So I'm kind of team Patrick. I do think Patrick is probably bi and he probably had a thing for Art... I'm not sure Art felt the same way though. That is probably why they never got together... it was just friendship for Art. And that would make sense why Patrick struggled, he never applied himself properly and maybe depression played a role in that - not being able to be with the one person he truly felt connected with. Then losing that person to Tashi, his ex-girlfriend. I just imagine the hurt that probably caused him, so it's no wonder his life has been a struggle since then.

I had the same thought about Patrick when watching the movie. I get the feeling that he’s had a thing for Art that’s never been reciprocated since they were young. From the jerk off story to the sauna conversation, it’s got one way affection written all over it. I think his family is heavily involved in politics and is very rich. He could’ve just taken a board seat and live a high life but he refused and chose tennis. So he’s essentially lost his best bud/secret crush and girlfriend all the same time while not doing so great professionally in tennis. Gotta wonder how that’s gonna affect a person’s psyche😢

It's obvious Patrick is in love with Art and was always aware of his desire towards him. However, it's implied Art is kinda divorced from his feelings, doesn't know what he wants and is a later bloomer than Pat. There's also enough hints to suggest latent desire towards Pat. Their tips pointing to each other, his persistent boner even after he realised he was making out with Pat, the biting of the churro. A film doesn't simply feature these things without meaning them. Art is late, but by the end he finally gets there.

Saw this in theater yesterday and left a changed woman. They are THE throuple. Only their true selves when with each other. I think you guys are giving Patrick more of a bad rep than he deserves. He's actually very honest and knew the other two well enough to call them on their shit. Patrick didn't really want to get one over on Art by "revealing" what happened with Tashi. He purposely had been losing the match but misses his best friend he loved so much? Him and Tashi both knew Art just needed to get passionate, or a fire lit, something!! And honestly Patrick has been the only one who could get Art to be passionate or make a move. It's crazy how toxic they can get for each other but honestly all three brings out the best in the other, too. The thing I love most about this film(other than the cunty soundtrack), is learning more with each viewing.

Tashi loved art and Patrick as much as she could because tennis was Tashi's real first love honestly. She got something different out of they both of them, which is why she loved one more at certain points in the film. They all got something out of each other, and they all got what they wanted in the end. Patrick and Art got back cool again, and Tashi got to see a good ass tennis match, which is why she screamed "come on!" as she did at the beginning of the film. Tashi liked patrick because patrick was just like her, except for the fact that he lacked drive or ambition. I think Tashi likes Art because Art is more trainable because he desperately wanted Tashi to train him in the first place. Art wants Tashi's approval, he's really desperate for it, and Tashi sees that so she used that to her advantage, but I still think she loves Art in some capacity.

@PettyPumpkins Me too! And how I WISH there was a part 2. I'm going to be HOPING for a 'Director's Cut' with all the deleted scenes. And I'll REALLY wonder how Art and Patrick would've turned out if Tashi had NEVER played such a big role in their lives. My fanfiction for this story is that after they ALL have 'kissed and made up,' they ALL move in together with all of them somehow 'being together' and living happily ever after...🥰😍🥰!!! I mean with how Art lept over that net, I truly believe he would want that. (Patrick too). Now, WHAT to do with Tashi??? 🤔

1.) Thanks for this because I probably wouldn't have watched this movie (did the full watch along on Patreon) if you guys didn't do it, and that would have been a shame because this was fantastic. All I knew of the movie was the infamous "threesome" scene and I kind of figured that's all there was to it. I was very, very wrong. This was an excellent film with a ton of depth and great performances. 2.) You were NOT being too hard on Patrick and Tashi. They really were messy, messy bitches. So was Art, but to a slightly lesser extent- so I'm pretty much in the Team Art camp. I felt like he grew up more than the other 2 did over the course of the film. It seemed like Tashi and Patrick were stuck in the past trying to recreate something that never fully existed in the first place.

If you really look at Art past the hotness, you see just how much he is like Tashi. At the very least, Tashi will 9/10 times tell you to your face what she means and why she does what she does. Art, is more duplicitous and won't show his full hand unless he is totally caught (like the churro scene, or the lunch scene). I personally feel Patrick is obvious with his wants and thoughts. He cannot hide as well as Art can even if he is not as forward as Tashi (an awkward boi). Also, in the way Tashi obsesses over tennis, Art and Patrick obsess over Tashi. That's why Tashi is ok making choices that compromise her relationship with Art. However, I do think that Tashi kanoodling with Patrick in the car, in a weird way, shows her want to stay with Art. She did it to have Patrick throw the game so Art can stay in the world of her obsession. She wanted to keep Art. But knowing she ultimately prioritizes tennis more, she needed to create an environment more conducive to Art staying a tennis player. Otherwise she wouldn't have bothered asking and would have been fine with any outcome of the game as she'd just leave with the top challenger.
@themartinpablo
@themartinpablo Ай бұрын
The ending is conclusive, because even if the tie break does not end and therefore it is not known which player won the match, the winner is tennis. Tashi defines tennis as a relationship. In the last scene Zendaya shouts "come on" and that refers to her juniors match we saw earlier in the movie. In the beach scene she tells Art that she shouted because for 15 seconds they really had a relationship, she and her juniors rival. And that's what happens in the last point of the movie between the boys: Art and Patrick play so well together their game transcends the field ❤🎾❤ Loved the reaction as usual 🎉

This film isn't even in theaters for a month in the U.S., but it's on digital. With it being #1 on its opening weekend, making $15 mil, Sony knew, in the next few weeks, this film would have trouble making more money especially once the hype of the throuple died down.

The thing is, they were all terrible to each other, even Art. Art was very manipulative, like he basically caused the tension between them that lead to their fight which also lead to her injury. That wasn't entirely Patrick's fault. Art also knew how to play Tashi, we see that constantly throughout their dynamic as well. In the end though, all 3 of their trash asses needed to be in sync go get what they wanted. It all goes back to when Tashi said "it's like a relationship". Technically for the end we don't know is who won. But in theory, they all won. Patrick got both Art & Tashi back, he was once alienated from the dynamic. Art got his motivation back and the push that he needed to be the player that was in him, Patrick gave him that. He also got Patrick back. & My girl Tashi, well she got to see "some great fucking tennis".

I hated the write off of Tashi’s come on at the end. The only other time she screamed like that was when she won that game earlier It’s important she got that feeling back when the boys were finally playing full out. She got to see real tennis. @nataliajimenez1870
@nataliajimenez1870 2 ай бұрын
Art Donaldson was also the original snake trying to get Tashi and Patrick to break up and then swoop in and using his sick/dead grandma to manipulate both Patrick (to let him win) and Tashi (to marry him). He also knew about Atlanta but didn't confront Tashi because he wanted to win the points that matter and knew that bringing up the Atlanta incident would break their engagement
@hamdialihassan1048
@hamdialihassan1048 2 ай бұрын
@@nataliajimenez1870 I didn’t catch the thing with the grandma so I’ll give you that one and the manipulating both of them was also not his finest moment however I would argue that Tashi and Patrick bring out the worst in him. No matter how he got there he’s a good husband and a good father and he deserves more than a wife who’s only with him to play tennis vicariously through him and a former best friend who will take any opportunity to sleep with his fiancée/wife. What I hope for Art is that he won the challengers game and then divorced Tashi. Probably just wishful thinking though.
