This poem which is part of Sahir's immortal collection"Talkhiyan", amply reflects his despondency over his heartbreak over a breakup of a relationship which had no future. But as Shakespeare said, "Our sweetest songs are those that tell of our saddest thoughts", Sahir's best creative work is based on his despair over the matters if heart and his disappointment over the chaotic state our social and political system has fallen into. Also, I think this song is one of the best songs Mahender Kapoor had ever sung and Ravi had ever composed.

In my knowledge he lost his beloved during his college days. She died of any illness & Saheer only reached his funeral when already the fire was lit up. After this he never got married though several encounters as I got information from a radio show. I hope this thing propelled him in his poetry & absolutely chosen best words.

Such amazing lyrics 💕 brought tears in my eyes. Why can't people just love, what stops them? be a soul, flow free, say what the damn you feel, do the damn feeling, life is not about suppressing it's about living. Society, financial situations where it stands if for instance it's your last day today. Love is Power, love is truth you can't run from. I don't know what would have been the period when Sahir would have written this song. And today I am agreeing with the lyrics of this song . This was my mom's favourite song.... she used to sing it almost everyday while making food... I lost her last year.. #InterestingFact Apart from being a popular poet, Sahir is well-known as a lover also. Here is an interesting episode that relates with his love for Sudha Malhotra, the extremely talented celluloid singer. Their love for each other was genuine but social taboos came in-between. Sudha was betrothed and her wedding date was announced. This was precisely when some of Sahir’s friends organised an event one evening in his honour. In this mehfil of friends, Sudha too was invited. She joined the company of friends knowing quite well that this would be her last meeting with Sahir. In this special union of close friends, several of Sahir’s poems were recited. When they asked Sahir to recite his poems, he chose to recite one of his most celebrated nazms “Khubsoorat Mod” which has a very moving line chalo ik baar phir se ajnabi ban jaayen hum donon. After Sahir finished his passionate reading of this nazm, the audience appeared emotionally moved beyond all description. Faces turned sad, eyes went moist, and an unending silence prevailed. Interestingly, this poem was also used in the film Gumrah (1963).
