Dale Jr. may never won a Winston/Sprint/Monster Energy Cup Championship but was the king of the Busch series.

If his dad doesn't die. He wins a cup. I think alot if his early success was because of how his dad pushed him. Yeah he had talent after his dad died and won races but I don't think he had that motivator that he needed. Especially with all the stuff that happened with his family there was no one to keep him straight and head on the track on raceday. Sure he had authority figures but you can't substitute the advice you were getting from his father. But him and Kennseth were fun to watch in Busch series together.

yeah great driver just not that great. Just good enough to do well in Winston cup and stick around year to year. Nothing against him my favorite driver 2k+ Mark martin my favorite. Dale sr 2nd jr i say 3rd. then i give the nod to Jeff gordon. i grew to respect and eventualy like jeff. seen him live in vegas, not in person but just on track driving. wet qualifying day. the way jeff drove that car around the corner both laps.......... he had my respect that day and never lost it. 2nd to qualify got 2nd best time. cold, wet track he realy pushed it to the limits. one of the last qualifiers got the pole, by then the track warmed up dried out etc.

Thank you for this. My first race as a kid was at richmond when steve park won in the #3 acdelco. I was hooked and begged to go back and Dale Jr won in the same car a year later. That car and paint scheme have a giant spot in my heart and bring back fantastic memories of being a kid with my family. This made me so happy to watch.

I remember this well and re-watch the races. It was a great time. Also, when he won The Winston and the pole for the Coca-Cola 600 in 2000, he was more popular than well-established Cup drivers because of THIS championship run. What a time to be alive!

Not really all a drop snout chassis is the pivot points in the front of the chassis is dropped down lower. Steve Park actually built the red headed stepchild chassis and won with it in Nashville in 1997. I think Dale Jr won 6 times from 1998-1999. Funny thing is the reason the chassis is painted red is Dale Sr wanted to know if it was raced and did bad he knew Steve Park built it. They also built another car like the red headed child and it performed just as good.

Being a diehard Dale Jr fan because I was a huge fan of his dads and living a half hour south of Richmond VA, I was there when he won his two then Busch series wins at RIR! I had been going to Cup races as a kid for years. Then around the time of his first full time Cup season and his dads death late 2000 early 2001 was when I graduated high school and left home a couple of weeks later. During that period I had trouble attending races let alone just trying to survive in the real world! But still somehow in NASCAR's peak popularity I could hustle up some free tickets working my magic most races. But between 2002 and 2006 the few Cup races at Richmond I missed Jr he won! It was almost like a running joke amongst my friends, I'm not there so Jr is bound to win the Cup race and that happened almost every single time I couldn't show up to RIR! Thanks BFM, great video of Dale Jr's early career!

Missing rings: Dale Jr and Jeff Gordon in 2014. That HMS did not win a title that year is stunning when all 4 drivers won a race and were extremely competitive. Jeff had his best year since 2007 and should have probably won the title as I think he had a better car that year than Harvick. Alan gave him some unbelievable cars at Indy and Michigan and even fall Martinsville.

I was at that race. 2nd row upper level just past start/finish. Was a surreal experience as I was sitting in the seat that used to be occupied by the girls we were sitting next to's dad who had died since the year before. It was his 3 daughters and wife. During the xfinity race on Saturday, they started crying and left midrace. We were making bets on if they were going to come back for the Cup boy did they ever. They brought a bottle of Crown Royal and Apple Schnapps to make Washington Apples and I proceeded to make an ass of myself, which gave them a good laugh. If any of them ever read this, thanks for the memories.

Or the screwjobs by Nascar in 2014 and 2015. You can also count 2004 as well but I was too young to remember. The chase format screw JR Nation over those seasons and if it was on the original format. He would have won the cup in 2014 and 2015 with ease. Consistency used to win championships in NASCAR and NASCAR have blown their load on the suburbian families where it was fans like myself who supported the sport till now. I'm waiting on Jeffery Earnhardt to blow up as Dale Jr did.

Go to the race at IRP Saturday night then go to the big track and party like crazy, sleep in our cars, then go to the Brickyard. Once nascar took away the irp night race that was the final nail in the coffin for me and my interest in nascar. They took away an awesome race to add the junior version of a dreadfully boring race. You look at those stands they were sold out. Why the hell nascar felt compelled to change everything is something I'll never understand. 🖕bill france jr

Honestly, if he was a bust, he wouldn't be capable of putting up seasons like he did in 2003, 2004, 2014, and 2015. Hell, he was one of the most consistent drivers in the field from 2011-2013, even though he wasn't dominant. If his career was 2005-2010 (except 2006 and half of 2008), then he'd be a bust, no doubt. His career is such a huge what if, both to him making career decisions where he shot himself in the foot and everything around him falling apart as well.
