Another one begun? Starting an elegant Italianate terrace for my model town - N Scale West Yorkshire

Inspired by Brook Street in Ilkley, I have started a new N Scale scratch build in card of a beautiful terrace of four shops for Station Road in Chandwell - my model of a run down town set in 1993. Inspiration can come from anywhere and in this video I show how I used a real-world building as my inspiration for the next par of my model.

Michael short bur concise update, thinking how the rather nice well maintain prototype will become Chandwellised, grimy run down. Yes you will need a gable end wall modelled and without on Brook St original you can pick a different idea. The Visit Chandwell By Train Poster at the end looks great, for viewers unfamiliar a few 1980’s Railway Posters were discovered recently at Huddersfield Station. Michael as done a great version of these. Looking forward to this row developing, great start. Ian

Interesting to learn something about architecture as well as modelling. Didn't know that style is Italianate.

A great start there Michael. It's always fascinating to see these early stages and how you contruct the blocks of buildings. The kebab shop on the corner is a really nice feature. Station Road is quickly becoming a Chandy highlight.

A great video Michael, I like the short and sweet ones as for those starting out (like me) it gives a good bit of info to mull over and letting the mind churn over its own ideas, leading to more independent thinking and how to solve problems. A great gift from Chandwell! I can’t get over 3:15…..that interior! That’s a masterpiece at N gauge and really I want a large lamb doner served up with a large chips too. In fact I’ll just go on JustEat and get it done! Chandwell really is like a slice of life loads of people can relate to, places to have a laugh, quirks and loads of comfort food! Top marks from me

It is always lovely to see, where you take your inspirations from: Those real life British houses are so intersting for me to look at, your models are even more impressive, Michael! Looking forward to new "road adventures"! All the best Valentin PS: Kebap store, what a nice feature. a huge chunk of the German population would starve nowadays without such shops! 😄And did you know, that the form of Kebab we are use today (served in a flat bread etc) was made popular by Turkish migrants in Western Germany first?

You've always explained how you build, and also design in Inkscape. I've always been curious how you do the nice animations of the layers and pieces of the computer plan. Is that a feature of Inkscape? Or do you use some editing software to do it. They are always very slick and professional, and I don't recall you ever mentioning how you do them and my curiosity is burning.

Hah! It’s very simple. I just export the images at the same size as PNGs. And then use the transitions in the video editor to blend the “before” into the “after”. Usually as a swipe up right.

@@Chandwell Interesting. I'd hoped it was something simple like this. Some of the end results have been incredibly professional looking, so it just being layers and transitions is something I'm definitely going to be making use of in my upcoming projects. Thanks as always.
