We're visiting ChangChill (changchill.com), an elephant sanctuary near Chiang Mai in northern Thailand which hopes to be a model for higher welfare wildlife tourism in the country.
ChangChill started life in 2017 as Happy Elephant Valley. It was the beginning of a transition for the owner, who previously ran parks that replicated the practices of other elephant parks in the region, allowing riding, bathing and feeding of the elephants.
Today, ChangChill, with assistance from World Animal Protection (www.worldanimalprotection.org), runs their park with the welfare of their four elephants as their top priority.
