Change GardenTap in 3 minutes

4 жыл бұрынThis was a simple how to change an outside Garden tap in 3 minutes. The new tap has 2 connections and 2 separate valves. It simply screws into an existing base plate which is fast and easy. I went a little excessive with the PTFE tape but that makes the tap thread tight in the socket and I can tighten the tap to the required angle. Thanks so much Gerry. This is exactly my problem at the moment. The house is 18 years old now and the tap,has been dripping for the last couple of years. So you rolled on lots of extra Teflon tape so the tap points into the right direction which is down. Right?

nice job done I too find my self doing more at home during these strange times I'm still working (electrician) but don't go out on my days off so more stuff gets done at home .. Just one thing if any of you are doing this make sure any outside tap has a check valve inside it to stop any water from any attached hoses getting mixed with drinking water..standing water in hose poses a real risk of legionella ...this is a legal requirement in the UK.

Should have used flax and a jointing compound. PTFE is notorious for weeps

does the valve have a built in non-return valve ? have you seen the " Darlac DW403 4 way brass manifold " do you have an isolating valve inside to shut it off, for frosty weather in the winter.

Hi Gerry, might there be an issue with fitting this tap to a brass backing plate? I ordered this same tap last wk after watching your video, but I should have ordered the 3/4 not the 1/2, not to worry Il order a thread reducer fitting

Hi Bernard. there are 2 common sizes of pipe 1/2 and 3/4 If your original back plate is 3/4 you will need a 3/4 by 1/2 inch brass bushing to reduce the size of the plate to the 1/2 inch thread on the tap. Most of ours in the states have the flange attached to the valve, we call them hose bibs, or sillcocks. Do you have to put those silly vacuum breakers on that style of valve or is it built in? The colder states like Michigan we use a lot of the frost free style, which puts the connection on the inside of the house, and vacuum breaker is built in. Very common for folks to forget to dissattach there hoses in the fall so the valve can't drain down and freezes and breaks. Cheers from a plumber in Michigan

Hi Michael. It's just a valve with nothing hidden or drain offs built in. Generally it does not get cold enough here to freeze and burst the valve. Michigan has been in the news lately and I remember that Lansing is the capital. Ireland is just a little island and would fit into your lake Superior. Other than that I know very little. Great to hear from the States though. The closest I have been to your state was Oregon where I worked for a while but it's a bit of a drive 😀 Thanks for commenting Michael Cheers Gerry👍😀

Hi Mark. Ireland is a bit like a big field compared to Oz. We're only about 300miles N-S and 130 ish miles E-W. No Kangaroos, big spiders or snakes but I would love to go there on hols some day. Great to hear from you Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry👍👍

I hadthe pleasure of working with a Frenchman who spoke no English it was the best . Came home sore from laughing at each other ... We got the job done .

When I was in service in the early 1980s, I rented an apartment near the UK base that had a water tank in the attic. Any idea what the purpose of that was? Sad to see that on google earth that building has been destroyed and replaced, sure had some good times there .

Hello Mr Doe. In the UK and Ireland it is common to have a stored water supply in the attic so if the mains water should fail or cut off that the house can continue to have water for washing and toilets. Usually 40 gallons or more of stored water. In the States it's common to run the domestic straight off the mains. Hope this helps Cheers Gerry 👍

Nice one - PTFE is very cheap and taps that are not at the right angle are very annoying!
