so when there is a price cap the curve stays where it was we just point somewhere else on the same curve

Producers are motivated to supply more because there is a greater reward, i.e., more profits or revenues.

More price gives an incentive for producers to produce more quantity.

I don't understand why a price cap results in a change in quantity supplied rather than a change in supply. If the government says you can no longer sell a barrel of oil at £50 you must sell it for £40, then surely your price has changed but not the quantity supplied, resulting in a shift of the curve (not along the curve) and a change in supply (not quantity supplied)?

It could be supplier have less motivation to produce qty? But shift curve to the right also make sense because more supplier to the market will make price go down to meet the cap?

That confused me too because he did not specify a certain company or anything, he said gas in general. But I think he means that the cap is not over an entire industry or market, but only for select suppliers. So the market as a whole does not decrease in supply.
