Tysm for this. I'm a single female and I completely freaked out because my car wouldn't start. I took my battery to oreileys, they confirmed i needed a new one. Bought it and the one terminal BC the other was fine. Couldn't cut the wires but I was able to keep them nice and taught and installed the new one. Luckily, had the minimal tools needed to unloosen/tighten the screws for the terminal for the new battery. I can't tell you how relieved and proud I was when I was able to start my car.

Even into 2023, thank you for this. Had no father willing to teach me these things growing up and very much appreciate having a chance to learn how to do these things from someone such as yourself. Clear, concise and informative as well as walking step by step helped me understand this so much. I was worried it would have been too complicated and I would've needed to take it to a shop to replace.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I was on the verge of spending $300+ on a mechanic to replace the whole cable just because the terminal head was cracked. You gave me confidence to try this myself. $25 later and it's fixed. (2008 Acura MDX)

I don't know why any good handyman would suggest replacing the entire wire/cable instead of replacing the terminal connectors first. I'd stay away from that mechanic from now on.

YES!!!! I have a 2010 Honda Crosstour V6 and the positive terminal was corroded and loose. I followed his instructions (Dremel, brush, strip, crimp) and it took me about 20 minutes and it worked like a charm. My previous terminal was so bad that it wouldn't start no matter what I did to clean and tighten and such. Now it starts like a champ and it was pretty easy. I am decently handy. I can change my own oil and tires and air filters. I don't, however, consider myself to be a handyman but his instructions were clear and easy to follow. Thanks Anthony!

Just so you know, I had bought a new battery a couple days ago & had them install it. My battery used side mounts. Now for a day it ran fine & would start right up everytime, however the next day I drove it a good 20 miles to pick up some cabinets & got loaded ready to go & no start. I got a jump & still no start or any sign of life in the battery as had nothing to report on any dash lights, headlights solenoid clicking, just nothing on trying to crank on the ignition. It had nothing! at all. So I pulled on the cable & it was loose & so I tighten it as tight as I could get it & still with out any results or any kind of voltage. But finally with messing & holding the cable, I got it started, without even a jump telling me the battery had plenty of juice. Now I did have it tight now for sure but every time I let off the gas it died & in park it would continue to run, but then again in drive it just keep dying on me but would restart. But once I had it running I got home with it dieing at every stop except to be kept shifting into neutral giving it gas I held the brake with my left foot so to keep my right foot on the gas to keep it running. Anyway by the grace of God I got it home & then pulled off the terminals & I knew my terminal contact to the battery side mount before had a washer that now had none. What I could figure is this side mount metal part, it had like four tiny probes the size of a pin that barely touched contact to the battery as was needed this washer on account is what actually made contact good with the battery side post. The metal contact also had a rubber jacket surrounding it from it making full connection that without the washer, it barely touched the joining connection making little to no connection that even though it was tight It just keep dying, on me. After I put another washer a size smaller than the rubber jacket onto the bolt that bolted it to the battery I now have no more problem.. The morale of the story is make sure your side mounts have that spacer, a washer for making full contact. God Bless & have a great day.

My 2006 Chevy Impala has the stock connectors which are all steel and have a Nut that is pointing upwards and you use a Socket wrench to loosen it to remove the connector off the battery post. My problem is that the metal connector broke somehow where even though I tighten the Nut all the way down - it is not getting tighter on to the battery post and the connector remains loose. This is on the Negative side and it has 3 stock factory GM cables coming into the metal connector. Also the cable is made so that it is short with no play in the cable - where the cable just barely allows the connector to reach the battery post. So if I try cutting the cables to mount a new, connector - there would not be enough room. I see that 2 of the cables connect up front near the battery with one bolting to the car frame. The hard one would be this one cable which I see goes into one of those ribbed plastic tubes where it and a whole bunch of wires and cables disappear into it towards the front of the engine.
