This is also how to install a fuel pressure regulator. Which is located inside the fuel filter. You will need a 10mm socket to remove the filter from the chassis.
If your model engine does not have a Schrader valve on the fuel rail remove the fuel pump relay (found in the fuse/relay box next to the battery) and start the engine. The engine will stall within a few seconds. This will help reduce the fuel pressure in the fuel system. You will still get some fuel spray when disconnecting the fuel filter. USE CAUTION.

The details in this video are amazing enough that I was numbering and writing down all the steps. Been working on vehicles for years and you still made a pretty simple task become even easier. I've watched hundreds of vehicle repair how to videos and this video was the first video over 5 minutes that i didnt skip back and forth at all. You are truly a mechanics life saver.

Hey, just wanted to thank you for the video. My 2003 grand Cherokee, 6 inline engine, was going thru long cranking periods, I had to constantly hit the gas pedal to start it up. Did some research and many ppl stated it could be the Fuel Filter / Regulator, so I decided to replace it. I followed your video instructions and the car starts up with no problem. I greatly appreciate everyone that takes their time to upload these great videos. by the way, I ordered the Mopar brand, because I read a lot about the AutoZone brands just having too many issues. Yes, it's $89. as opposed to $45, but it offers me peace of mind that I will not have to be doing it anytime soon, God willing.

In my 2000 Jeep Grand, 4.7 engine, the filter also has a pressure regulator in it and most mechanics don't know this. I paid a guy to install a new fuel pump which required the gas tank to be removed and re-installed and was back the next day with only 24 lbs of pressure to the engine. I didn't need a new pump, I had replaced the filter a week earlier and the problem was the pressure regulator. I spent more money than I needed to, having a new pump installed when all I needed was a new filter/regulator as the one I bought at Aito Zone was faulty from day one. I have stopped buying sensors and this item from after market places. They cost more at the dealer but they last longer and work better. Just thought I would share this with you in the hope of saving you a headake. 4 years ago was when I had a new pump installed and then the pressure regulator the next day as the pump was not the problem and now I am having to replace the aftermarket pressure regulator again as the one my mechanic installed an aftermarket one and it failed 4 years later. As you can see from this video, it's not in an easy place to get to and a pain to do. Hope this helps you save money, time and a headake.

Great video. The WJ manual says that these shouldn't be serviced regularly. But looking at that nasty filter and fuel on the paper plate, I can see why you would want to do it. Thanks for the step by step illustration!

This Filter has the Pressure regulator inside of it. I replaced my filter and about a month later I was having problems with the car as it would stop running. A mechanic said I needed a new fuel pump. He replaced it for me as I didn't want to do it myself. Has the same problem, the car would stall out and not restart. Turned out to be the pressure regulator inside this filter. I DIDN'T NEED A NEW FUEL PUMP THAT SITS INSIDE THE GAS TANK...Check the gas pressure before you pay for a part you don't need. Hope this helps save you some money and headaches. I'm glad he pointed this out. Most people don't know this. I didn't and I have owned Jeeps for 50 years.

Thanks for the great video. Your explanations and extra detail made the job a lot easier. I'd like to recommend that when trying to remove the difficult connector with the slide-in collar that the collar be cleaned with brake cleaner, sprayed with silicon lubricant, and then use a pair of Harbor Freight long reach hose grip pliers to press the collar in. The nose of the pliers is placed behind the sliding collar and form a circle around the pipe. As pressure is applied the pliers push the collar in evenly from all directions. I was then able to pull the connector off easily this way. Hope this works for others.

Thanks for the excellent video! I had my 04 grand cherokee towed to the dealer a couple days ago to have the starter replaced and a pinion seal replaced in the rear differential. While it was there I asked the service advisor to replace the inline fuel filter in front of the gas tank. She said it only had a filter in the tank! I told her I saw something there that looked like a fuel filter and would like it replaced. She said she would have it looked at but sure there was no filter there. I said, Okay check it out for me and let me know what you find out. She came back to me after the mechanic checked it out and sure enough it was a fuel filter. They wanted $200+ to replace it!!! $620.00 for an after market starter and to put the pinion seal in! I bought the pinion seal from them about a year ago $45.00 so that was not part of the $620.00. Dealer work is expensive but they do have a lot of overhead to cover.

Thanks. Before watching your video I didn't even know where the filter was or what it looked like. I ordered a new filter online and got it he next day. Had it replaced in about 30 minutes. Disconnecting the fuel lines was really aggravating but I was ready for that. At least I knew what I had to do and just kept working at it. And the best part is the fuel filter was the problem. Smooth acceleration now.

Nice work explaining all the components and what to expect. I ended up removing the RR wheel even thought it was on jack stands under the rear axle. Instead of lying on my back, I was able to sit on a bucket and wrestle with the fittings. Note: great advice to remove the FPR bracket bolts--allowed easier handling and compression of the fittings. Compressed air always your friend to remove the grit that can inhibit the plastic clip movement. Thanks for posting!

I need to replace a leak in the "difficult one" hose, and it is great to know to pull the thing down and that I would need a special ring to get it apart. Many years ago I bought a used 2001 Grand Cherokee that always started hard the first start of the day. I determined it was a bad checkvalve allowing fuel pressure to bleed off after standing for several hours. I thought it was on the fuel pump and finally sold the GC. I’m getting ready to do this on my sons 04 Grand Cherokee, a vehicle that still has an external fuel filter, what a concept LOL, thanks Martin 👍😁

Good luck with that, also spray some WD40 or lubricant up in their it will help remove those clips from the fuel filter
