Very comprehensive vid indeed! Not many harpists learn about the 'skeleton' secret of swopping strings with other in the octave and the trick of reducing string tension when going on long trips or during periods of playing inactivity.

Bridget Jackson Harp I substitute all the Gut Strings w/ Fluorocarbon (basically a more refined type of Nylon) Strings because they hold tune better.

I'm so thankful for this video! I live in a remote region in Brazil (in terms of harp players/teachers) so I don't have that much instruction available locally and this really helped me A LOT, thank you thank you!

I've had my Camac Odyssey for a year, and I have had what I think might be the same string near the top G2 break again today. Humidity is around 70% in my flat and it was up to about 18 C outside but it's usually around 19 to 20 C in my apartment year round. The string broke very soon after I bought the harp. My teacher helped me change it. This will be my first time changing it on my own. Glad I wasn't home when it broke. I understand a breaking string can be quite a shocking noise.

The changing seasons is definitely a time when strings start to break! The lower strings are definitely louder than the higher ones when they break and can cause a bit of a surprise 😄

Thank you for Youri clean lessen About the strings! I have a question: should all levers of the leverbare ( Lyon&Healy troubadour) go down when I’m nog plating?
@bjacksonharp

Thank you, I'm glad you found the video helpful! Yes I'd recommend putting levers down when you're not playing, it will help make the strings last longer by keeping less tension on them 😊

The manufacturers keep wanting my model number that I don't have and I'm about to just get some weed eater string......Getting desperate, and just kidding.

Oh no, sorry you're dealing with that! Are your strings a new batch or have you had them for a while? I've found that strings get less reliable the further you are into their shelf life. If you got them recently though and they are breaking already, the maker should replace them free of charge within a certain time frame. It could always just be a bad batch

@@bjacksonharp No. Sorry. I've been listening to the Harp Twins a lot, and my brother had given me a celtic lap harp he brought home from a construction job at the Grinnell College (with permisison college students leave things behind just to make room when they graduate). I've had it a while, now, and the tuning key fell out of the top of the pocket and broke some strings. I've been wanting to repair and learn from You Tube University (ha!). I can't even get started because I have NO support around here, and conversations on chat don't help a guy who's neve played harp before. I twinkled around on it some when I first got it, and it tuned up alright, but I have 4 missing strings (E, G, C, & G ascending). It's not playable that way. I saw a harp online at REVERB, but I'm starting to think that I shouldn't try to do this with no more support than I can get. I'll just try to repair this one. I just hope I don't spend too much on it. It's not very good......the sound box is like balsa wood, and I have a chip in it just from carrying it in a small case with a cloth handle. This is really a rich person's instrument. I have a nice 100 year old violin for my Celtic music that's been repaired, and it stays together fine, but these harps are SENSITIVE and high maintenance, and then they're so expensive, too. I need an email address, I guess......oh, and a publisher (for this book I just wrote). 😀

Are nylon filament strings affected by climate conditions?
@bjacksonharp
@bjacksonharp Жыл бұрын
Nylon strings in general are more resistant than gut strings, but climate still affects them (more on the temperature side than humidity.) But any kind of sudden change in environment can make any type of string break.
