This video discusses the process to replace the rear end gear oil on a late model Toyota Highlander. The one pictured is an all wheel drive model that also has a transfer case on the front axle. The same gear oil may be used in the transfer case as well. Conventional gear oil should be 75W-85. Synthetic may be 75W-90. Use limited slip.
Rear end fluid capacity is 1/2 (.5) quart.
Transfer case capacity is .8 quart.
Tools needed include:
Ratchet, 3/8 or 1/2 or breaker bar
10 mm Allen socket
Your favorite penetrant
Drain pan
Fuel hose and duct tape
Rags and/or paper towels
