How to change brake shoes and drums on a semi tractor. Was at the dot legal limit on my rear axle. Went ahead and did both axles.

Catch the center spring first between the drums, install on the hub and then Catch the two small side springs last with a vice grip and a bar.

Put the old shoes up against the new shoes and you'll see that they were only about halfway worn out now that I look at the new one you didn't need to change them

What helps a lot for me is leaving out one of the silver rollers by the two small springs. It closes the gap to more easily install the center spring. Then I run back with a pry bar, pry back and install the other roller then do the last two with the clips at the center spring. Just my 2¢ if you're ever struggling with prying up on the center spring. 8:10

There are also spring installer tools for those two back springs. It grabs the springs and stretches it. One of my buddies has one. Made installing a lot faster.

Those brake shoes still had at least another 10 20,000 miles left on them

Yes I agree, they were on the first axle. The second axle were at the DOT minimum. I should have shown those instead. I just went ahead and did all of them at the same time so I’m good from here on and don’t have to worry about doing them later down the line

@@demetriosanchez7451 you from Arlington too? They treat me pretty good man. I’ve noticed this year it’s slowed down. Instead of having a load waiting for me when I empty out, I’m having to wait a while till I get my next dispatch. But they keeping moving and I’m still making money. Once spring rolls around I’m guessing we will be balls to the wall again.

@@GarySmith-dg1sj it’s not a how to video. Just recording day to day trucking content and what it consist of. Thanks for your feedback either way. This was when I first started recording and being an owner operator. I’ve gotten better at explanations since than.
