Thanks for the step-by-step instruction. I'm good with tools in construction but have never worked on cars much. This gave me confidence that it was a straightforward job I could tackle. And I did!

Thanks Bill, helpful. One comment, I was told just put 1 dab of anti sieze grease on each plug.
@johnb1658

NEVER put anti-seize on plugs! Plug threads are coated from the factory. Adding anti seize to them can actually cause the plug to get over or under tightened.
@kevinlatham5661
@kevinlatham5661 3 жыл бұрын
insert new plugs using piece of fuel line , engage thread using finger force twisting the hose until thread engages , no chance of forced cross threading. torgue up with socket. do wtih motor cold, alloy not soft from heat. do one plug at a time, no empty plug holes to drop stuff into.

This is a good video. I plan on changing my spark plugs this weekend. I plan on getting tags and numbing them on what goes where on top. You made it look so easy. Couldn't afford to pay $400 too.

Great video. I noticed you didn't use a torque wrench to tighten your sparks. How tight did you tighten them? I thought it's important to tighten the right amount.

You should use a torque wrench. I didn't have one. I got them pretty tight though. Sorry

It's a 5 speed M/T just like mine. You get an automatic like for that alone. I just swapped out my alternator and the spark plugs are next on my list, I just wasn't quite sure where they hid them

I've been quoted $200/dealership to change plugs on top of cost of plugs, but still not due for another 6k miles. Engine running rough and idle off, think I'll try to do it myself, thanks to your great video. I just don't understand where you apply the anti sieze gel (spark plug threads?) and the boot protection dielectric (?) gel, on the boot of the coil. Inside the boot so it easily slips onto the spark plugs? Vibration/ engine/ stick shift, post engine work changing vvti gear (misdiagnosis)/ dealership, should hsve just been vvt valve, plus oil change. At this point, affraid to let them touch my truck.

Hi Ruth, Sorry for the confusion. Some people use the anti seize gel on their plugs, some don't. It just takes a tiny amount, yes on the threads. The dielectric grease on the inside of the boot but not on the metal connect parts, or on the white portion of the spark plugs; again, very lightly.

@@AngladaFamilia thinking I'll get new boots top, but so expensive. I think I saw them quoted at $74 each. I'm at 114k miles, and i think i Toyota recommends changing out at 60k. Your video, is great. Thank you, again!

@@AngladaFamilia hey Rick, great video man. Should the coil pack bolts be torqued to a certain spec too? I gave mine a good tightening. Also, is boot grease a requirement? Denso doesnt say anything about it

U dont disconnect the battery?

Some recommend it. I never have. Ignition off, no power to the plugs. But, you can do it if you'd rather.
