You're too modest Scout. You didn't "get lucky" that the player base exploded around that time. You *helped* create that growing player base. Your content is what made me aware of the scene back then. I'm not going to say you're single handedly responsible, or anything. But you've definitely had a hand in shaping the scene as it exists now. Thank you

The world championships explained video currently sits at 720k views. That video alone is a huge factor for the popularity of classic tetris. As an old fart, I was already following classic tetris at the time, which only made me more aware of how much impact it had on the community. Of course, Scout wasn't the only factor, but definitely a big one.

To put Sidnev's transition score record into context: the highest possible transition score (not counting points by holding Down) is 754360 (32 Tetrises at Level 18 worth 22800 each, 1 Single at Level 19 worth 760, 1 Tetris at 129 lines which is scored as being at Level 19 for 24000). To get that high a score needs 31 out of a possible 33 Tetrises, which is an intense level of stacking consistency (and a measure of luck) needed to pull off.

Small typo: you say the single is at level 19, but it's at 18. The score and everything else is right, though.

Sad I missed the last month of my hosted events. That was when my mental health was at its worst. However, it's good to know that of each era, I did the second best job, so I feel a little less bad about it now. Thanks for the video. This was a fantastic watch, and you are an absolute blessing to the classic Tetris community. Thank you, scoutface! :D

Thank you again for starting all of this! One thing I was struck with when going through the whole archive in reverse was how much production value and effort was clearly put into the tournament from the very beginning. And it is really cool that thanks to you we have a whole streak of everything preserved from all the very first months, allows for some very interesting comparisons throughout time. Some videos scripts marfram has outlined have found some fascinating statistical games that happened in your era!

Nothing to be sad about, your contribution was immsense!! You helped get the monthlies going, that allowed extremely useful statpoints to exist in the first place, and be collated. This whole endeavor would have been a lot more shallow without your efforts and input. Hope you're in a better place now :)

Really exciting to see this project. I have loved GameBoy Tetris for a long time but was intimidated by the NES specific elements of the classic competitive scene EG overcoming autoshift delay. Having this data can make it easier for us to understand how the world's top players interact with more of the design choices that make up a specific version of Tetris, an exciting thought for me.

Scout, I've been "following" the scene for a number of years, but it's been primarily through your videos and some WR videos posted here and there from the players themselves. Occasionally I'll catch a live match or two, but usually it's a struggle to keep my attention. The amount of work you specifically have put in to grow the community and all that you've given back is absolutely enormous and frankly, if you're not already considered one, you should be considered a classic Tetris legend for it. You've put out such an impressive log of entertaining content with so much effort that you should be enormously proud of the work you've done. You're honestly a huge player in the community and the reason many people such as myself follow it at all. Now that this database is available (and I love statistics to no end) I don't know what much more I can say than "thank you" to you and the amazing team you've assembled to make it a reality.

Subscribed to patreon. I found classic tetris through scout, and I think lots of other people did too. Give yourself some credit, man. You helped MAKE this community as big as it is now. You weren’t lucky. You earned this. You’ve clearly put in the effort to make great content, and honestly, you deserve to be spotlighted for it. Nobody just creates a full statistics database for a video, this is something you do because you have passion for it, whether you realize it or not. Thanks for making so much great stuff for us, and for helping me find such a cool community. I’m truly thankful.

Hey, longtime watcher and tetris player since the beginning. And also a professor of epidemiology / public health stats. And I think you and I have played a few times on Tetris Effect. :) Every consider R or R Shiny, or have others in the community into stats and data work? You, Marfan, etc. might enjoy it! Learning a statistical programming language (R, Stata, SAS, whatever) with a passion dataset is a great way to do that. But yeah, this is stellar work. So glad you're still fed by the community and feeding it in return with these awesome videos and data journalism. Very cool. Best wishes!

The best player ever is a brown leather jacket. 2. Vid Part 8.. I hear you (summoning salt) music , on game records ;) 3. I'll never not love, and mention how awesome it is that a continued on game is called a Mullen. 4. Want to see the scatter plot with color overlay broken down by year/era, and also by play style DAS/Tap/Roll. Well done Scout!!

Your video gave me hope that I can love Tetris again. In fact, I have seen all the dedication a bunch of passionate people can put into this game, just like how I was dedicated to the PAL scene not so long ago. And it gave me chills. I remember watching those Koryan vs Joseph games a few years back, I really hope for both of them to make strong comebacks with rolling, and for Koryan to win a CTWC. Fantastic video as always

You've done so much for tetris, and will go along in folklore even after you are gone.

This is so incredible. I don't have words to explain how cool this project is. I've been working with statistics a lot for my Master's thesis and know how unwieldy it is to work with datasets that have tens of thousands of points. There is no greater feeling than completing the analysis and seeing something new that we never would have seen without grinding hundreds of hours to organize all the data!
