When you forgot the nut on the inner tie rod and had to take it back out…I was cracking up because that’s the same shit I do all the time and it drives me CRAZY! Glad there are other normal people out there that space the steps sometimes

I should watch your video first before I replaced it on my car. I measure with the ruler but after installed still took long time to make it balance because the tires moved when remove this part. You did the smart way, great video.

I be dipped that’s a good idea, thank you for your videos young man, I do some repair on my old E320 cdi, those Germans would cringe if they saw those knuckle busters, channel locks, water pump pliers breaking that loose.

I told myself where the hell is the nut. And then... :-D But i think that you missed the spot, where the spring clamp on the smaller side of the boot should secure it on the tie rod. There was nice recess on the rod, that you didn't use. I thought that you will adjust it later. But it's not in the video. It would be a pity to rip that original meritorious boot by stretching it too much, when this side tie rod will extend to its limit. Overall again simple but very nice tutorial. I use to say, that knowledge brings fear. But you are a nice exception that proves the rule. ;)

Do you have a video/tip on how to tell if the inner is bad vs the outer, or if you should replace both at the same time you're doing it?

Is this process similar on 2007 CLS550? it's based on the w211 platform.

Love the fix!!! Off question: would you ever consider installing a tune? If so, which one would you go with?
@MBDieselFreak
@MBDieselFreak 5 жыл бұрын
Definitely thought about it, would love to get one! I currently do not have the money to justify one right now though. Id much rather put money into preventative maintenance than optional mods.

MBDieselFreak thanks for the reply. I’m considering one but I don’t want to destroy my CDI. Is there certain brand that you are looking at or would consider above others?
@MBDieselFreak
@MBDieselFreak 5 жыл бұрын
@@damienisabella2059 any tune that actually remaps the ECU is completely safe. rocketchip, green diesel engineering, monroe tune, etc. any companies that sell an ECU tune for the CDI will work, and cost varies quite a bit depending on who you go with. quality of the tune doesn't really change much from brand to brand either.

@@MBDieselFreak You can buy cheap chinese MPPS with ~10$. Many 320cdis can be read/write with that. Making remap (actual flash dump editing with WinOls) on your own is the most time consuming part. It's a bit steap learning curve. But there are forums for good info. I have done mine OM642 like that . Think it as an adventure ;)

Exellent video!. I have the same job to do on my car, but I do not have a lift. I will use jackstands. How much more awkward would this job be to do it this way?

@@MBDieselFreak thankyou. I had winter tyres fitted and a wheel alignment done because I replaced the front lower control arms. They told me that they felt movement in the inner tie rods. I suspected as much. They confirmed this for me. Great videos, thanks again!

out of interest why did you not replace the external tie rod. I'm looking at doing both inner and outer rods l+r on my cl 600, this video has helped me understand that I will be able to do it myself.

I would recommend that you have a friend mark the laser line then offset the wheel all the way inward make a mark, all the way outward make a mark and then let the wheel rest and see if it falls in the center. Perhaps it's unevenly worn, but I would think measuring the middle of the two offsets would be the actual original alignment.
