Serghei - thank you for this incredibly helpful video and your excellent, clear descriptions. I had a problem with a leaking cam housing on the passenger side of my 2011 SR5 and, in lieu of a $2700+tax dealer estimate, attempted to fix it use a shortcut published in another video. That video was fine but I misunderstood what was involved with the tensioners and messed it up. Using your video, I was able to take the timing chain cover off and get both cam housings sealed as well as recover from my mess-up. I haven't worked on an engine in over 20 years and I don't think I could have done it without your video. Thanks again!

Serghei EXCELLENT VIDEO! Thank you very much for sharing. You explain very well what you are doing. It is a time consuming job as I can see. I have a 2010 Toyota Tundra, I use the Mobil 1 motor oil. I did the timing belt on my 2001 Toyota Tundra 4.7 engine about 10 years ago. I have replaced many timing chains and gears on the 1960's Pontiac engines. I replaced the timing chain on my older Brothers 1953 Buick Roadmaster this past march. Brother is 83 years old now soon to be 84. Brother taught me a lot of what I know. I have always been intrigued and fascinated with timing chains and engines on how they work. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH

Thank you for this video! Really saved my butt on my 2008 3UR Sequoia. I’m swapping all the same parts this weekend on mine, nearly ready to take the covers all off. Honestly the most annoying part of this whole thing is the wiring harnesses. They did not make it easy to work on with regard to those.

I usually use Royal Purple assembly Lube on the chains and guides and gears. Its very sticky and will not drip if used right for the jobs. But nice to see you lube the chain with oil before closing up. I see WAY to many techs and people start then dry and that will cause wear that is not wanted on first fire up.

I used WD-40 on the connectors and some hose pliers (they look like needle nose pliers, but the ends are rounded to go around hoses) to disconnect the plugs. You can use a large size (about the diameter of a quarter. They pinch the plugs little tabs and allow you to release the plugs. I successfully disconnected all required plugs and didn't break any! Good luck!

love our videos. I have a question . Recently Ive been offered a, 2015 Toyota Tundra TRD - SR5 _ with the 5.7L 8-Cylinder Gas Engine . Miles are under 80 thousand . Its absolutely imaculate. The only thing is its 2WD and not the 4WD , but I prefer the 2WD since it hasnt snowed where I live in 8 years. I can get the truck for under $20 thousand. I would love your advice. I really like this Toyota engine and its a crew cab. Thx Buddy. fyi, when do you need to change a timing chain on this engine ??

I just bought a complete kit from RockAuto. They have all the individual parts or a complete kit with 4 chains, 4 tensioners and 4 slides. I got a Melling brand kit. Seems fine. They have several brands available. Best price for sure. I also picked up a new radiator, oil pump kit, water pump, etc. I figure replace everything at once and hopefully I won't have to do it again.

Before you go through the effort of doing this try to put marvel mystery oil in your truck. Just got rid of my rattle. The oil gets gummed up and causes the tensioner to stick in many cases when it is otherwise functional and without defect.

They never stretch. It's one of the biggest, best-built chains on anything. Unless the engine overheated & ran hot for way too long, the factory paint timing marks are visible. If they're faded or gone, replace it due to uncertainty. But as a rule they just don't fail.
@jameszettelmeyer291
@jameszettelmeyer291 9 ай бұрын
It's not the chain that fails on these. The tensioners can fail. My 16 sequoia with 92k has a tensioner going. Gotta replace it next year and since it requires basically taking everything off anyways, just going to do the full timing kit.
