We just purchased the pump a month ago while mooch docking at my cousins house. We easily pumped the black tank through 200 feet of 3/4” garden hose with a slight downhill grade into his city sewer clean out. Then a week later at a campground with only a dump station we pumped 200 feet over level ground with no issue. As an engineer I would recommend going with the 3/4” hose as it will have substantially less flow resistance than the 1/2”. With the black tank you are pumping a slurry whose viscosity will vary depending on the water to solid ratio in the tank. You will have better flow with larger diameter, less back pressure on the pump equals more flow and reduced heating of the pump. Your suggestion to first test with the gray water is a good one. However, after assuring that my connections were leak free, I closed the gray valve, dumped the black tank, then used the remainder of the gray to flush out the pump and hose. My camper has a rear kitchen so there are two sewer connections about 20 feet apart. I ran my power out of the forward battery compartment which required a 30 foot extension cord. Therefore I replaced the 12 gauge wire that came with the pump with 10 gauge due to the long run to reduce the voltage drop to the pump. You guys are great!

Robin is absolutely right about the hose size. That's why I use a 3/4 inch 75 ft hose which is connected to a 1 inch 150 ft hose for a total of 225ft. It reduces the pressure needed to move the fluids thus allowing a much longer run of hoses with reduced loads on the pump. Simple well known engineering and physics.

I did not expect this video to be as valuable as it has been. We bought a property that has a septic tank with a dump pipe that is 85ft away from the rig and the gradient does not work for gravity dump. After a bit of messing with the electrical part and some juggling with the 100ft hose, we got it working. The grey first tip saved me some serious work and mess. Thanks so much for the video! It was a life saver.

Can’t thank you enough for the info. My oldest son is now living on our property in a 5th wheel to save money for a home. We’ve struggled with the sewer issue because I was thinking there would be no way for the sewage since it’s about 110’ to the septic tank. Well you’ve eased my mind and the problem is solved. Thanks again!

Love the Flojet !! First learned about it from you. I am a fulltimer and have been using my Flojet year around every week for 1 year and 3 months at my home base location with no problems ever. I dump a 54 gallon blackwater tank and two 50 gallon greywater tanks. I use a 75ft long 3/4inch hose garden hose which is connected to a 150ft long 1inch irrigation hose to the clean out for a total of 225ft. Never had any problems and it never quits because of overheat thermal protection. That also includes a 20 minute long black tank rinse in 2 minute cycles. 2 minutes rinse with pump off, then pump it out while the rinse is still running, then pump off and repeat.

Thanks for sharing this Chad. I remember you and Tara did another video like this at Tara’s brothers house. It was so funny. I see you put some clips in here. The memories have me laughing. Thanks for showing us how far it can go. I’m sure it can go very far. I use a 32 gallon rhino tote. We use it mostly when we don’t have full hookups. We tow it over to the dump station. Thanks for sharing. Very informative.

Thanks for the information and especially the update on the newer flow jet products I have been using a messiator pump on my coach since 2007 it has been a wonderful experience. It pumps up hill 40 feet with no problem I haven’t tried to extend past that service level I did have a problem with the pump when it was new and had to replace the impeller which was a whole two dollars. I had the company send me a new pump and the impeller so I have a spare to carry with me and it’s been riding along all these years a huge supporter of Flo jet and emaciated pump. Thomyt

Perfect timing for this update - my brother and I have been discussing the advantage of a macerator pump for our rigs when we are at our homes since we do have a safe place to dump, but it's too far away for normal RV hoses. This would allow me to dump while in my driveway and not fight with the slight incline it has going towards my 2 cleanouts in my back yard. Kind of a hefty price for something that's probably only going to see use once or twice a season, but the ease of dumping more than makes up for the cost! As always, huge thanks, Chad and Tara!!

Used it to pump to my septic @ 150 ft thru a 3/4 garden hose. Wired it up with a switch never cuts out. I use a gate valve with a flush port when done to clean it all up. Our TT camper is on a site with no services right now so I use two transfer tanks in the back on my F350, one is a 225g fresh water supply with a MaxFlow 5000 used to supply fresh water and flush the black tank, and a 150g waste tank. I use a VICT Macerator pump to empty the black tank, black tank flush and grey tank into the 150g waste transfer tank with a 40' 1" hose. Then I drive home and use the same VICT Macerator pump to empty the 150g tank into a 1" connection to a 3" main riser via my garage so it won't freeze. Works great, the F350 doesn't notice the weight (even if both tanks are full) and the VICT works amazing. I always have a spare of each pump on hand just in case Murphy drops by. I will be using the VICT on my Truck camper this week to flush out the black & grey tank as well.

We have the same pump and love it! As a matter of fact, we bought it after watching your first video. (Thanks) Definitely a must have for boondocking. At home, we use a 1" hose that's 100 foot long that we got off of Amazon. The ground is level at our house going back to the clean-out at the septic tank. Due to the diameter, it empties the tanks in no time without any cut-offs.

Never needed the macerator yet but we have had very good luck with Flojet pumps for years. Used to need a pump in the barn to increase the pressure for the water cups to work correct for the cows and in the summer that pump could run just about constant for days. It was rebuildable pump and we did replace the kit once a year but the pump was run hard. We also had a Flojet pump water up a bluff to a cabin we had to fill a water tank for the cabin. That was a good 500 feet of poly tube and it worked for the years we owned it. Most people get to small of a pump for the need but we had good luck. Be safe.

Hey Chad. I've used the Sanicon Turbo 600S for the past four years on our Class-A motorhome. Rather than a 3/4" discharge hose, it uses a 1.5" hose. It dumps my 40-gallon black tank in less than two minutes and the 60-gallon grey tank in about 3.5 minutes when level and can pump up to 9' high if/when needed. This comes in handy, as you said when you can't get a gravitational flow, like when the campground sewer connection is elevated. For example, the sewer pipe at our current campground is about 8" off the ground. Also, it's nice not needing to use one of those accordion-type hose supports. Another benefit for me, since the 600S macerator is permanently installed (they have other models that connect as needed), is when using a public dump site I can just grab the hose, pull it over the side of the wet bay, connect it to the sewer port, then flip the switch on. It's very quick. The hose that comes with it is 21' long. I've added a second 21' hose to my setup. There is a cap for the end that goes into the sewer connection which makes for clean storage. But it also has a standard garden hose connector built into the cap if you need even more length. Finally, the FloJet in your video sounded pretty loud. I believe the Sanicon is much quieter. By the way. I have no affiliation with Sanicon or Thetford. I just really like the product.

I have a similar pump. I don't have a long run as I mostly use it to fill my Rhino portable tank. In many campsites the top of the tank is higher that the sewer outlet. It depends on how I have to level. Of course I had to buy the huge tank lol. I wired it in a similar fashion the only difference is I moved the switch closer to where I put the tank. I also used battery clamps to connect to my front battery as you did. It is really a game changer. Works like a champ and save me a lot of effort. It's much less of a messy job now. Asl.always great video.

You're right about how tight the connection is to the clear elbow. My problem is disconnecting so that I can put it back in the case. I used to have to put the elbow in a vise to separate them, but I gave up on that and just put it away with the elbow still connected. I haven't tried greasing or filing the macerator yet, but I will, so thanks for the suggestion. I have a SAE port mounted next to the switch for my electric stabilizer so I can use the same line since I won't be using them at the same time, but I'm planning on mounting another on the other side of my trailer so that I won't have to mess with extension cables.

Thanks again for a wonderful evaluation of a fine product. My first RV macerator pump was in 1986. Since then I have let my my motorhomes go with the pump on board and purchased a new one with the next motorhome. If the power cable is too long and/or the extension cable is too small a gage, the 20 amps being drawn by the pump will receive too much of a voltage drop causing the motor to heat up and automatically shut off. Measure the voltage at the last connection at the motor. If is is below 12 VDC, consider a larger power cable, a battery at the pump or you may be able to do what I did. My generator is next to my black and grey water drain connection. I installed a 20 amp twist lock receptacle and a 25 amp fuse connected to the generator 12 VDC connection and a 20 amp twist lock plug onto the pump wiring. The larger gage wire going to the generator 12 VDC directly from the battery, assures a good voltage to the pump. The pump will not overheat. Contact me if you have any further questions. I love my pump.

I found that using flat 1” PVC hose worked the best, as I don’t have room for 100’ of garden hose. I took the 100’ length and cut it so I have one 50’ section and two 25’ sections, easily configured together with male/female pvc adapters. The 50’ piece, coiled up, fits nicely in the bottom of a 5 gal bucket.

We have the original pump from flo jet and it works great. When it is hot you do have to work around the thermal shut off but it still worked good considering that. Ours is 100ft distance and right at 4ft rise to the clean out. We have never had an issue. But I would add a single cutoff on each end of the hose you are using to help control spills and if you are leaving it hooked up you will want to close the shut off at the pump to keep the waste from backing up into the pump.

We have been pulling our RV to the State Park to fill and dump but this may change everything. Both fields are downhill from my RV pad and neither are more than 150 feet. Since it's a temporary connection i would bet both would say have at it. I'm guessing the second connection is for a freshwater hook-up to flush it out.

Great drinking game idea: Take a drink every time Chad says, "150 feet." LOL!!! Seriously, thanks for this. In the process of putting a system together with a mac-pump and a 100 gal ag-tank for boondocking disposal. Y'all are the best! -B. (US Army Black Hawk pilot-retired) (Go Army! Beat Navy!). P.S. Going to NRVTA in JUL for the Owner's and the Solar courses per your recommendation.

We have a Flowjet pump and use it almost daily on our RV. I did it as a I really want to try this, fell in love with it. I can say in NM summer heat only once has it it cut out do to heat. Will never go back to a stinky slinky again, my biggest reason plumbed into the park sewer there is NO smell. Wish I could post pictures in this response.

I remember the pumping into the toilet. I laughed till I couldn't hardly breathe, it was the best video I've ever seen! I've had a FloJet for a couple of years and I have used the blue tote in the back of the pickup. Works really great, I have to remember the tote is not as big as the holding tank. You have to be a little careful....just saying. Also my tote was a little tall and interfered with hooking up the 5th wheel so I put smaller wheels on it took the tongue and front wheels off of it and cured the problem. I can still wheel it around empty and makes it very convenient. Please apologize to Tara for me for laughing at her during that video.

2017 moved into our 21 ft. camping trailer while an old house was being demolished and a new one being built. Bought the Flojet and ran 100 ft , with 50 ft of elevation gain up to the septic tank. Plan b was to get a tote, but did not have to use plan b. Put a ball valve on the downhill end of the 3/4 hose. Would cycle the pump on and off to prevent overheating. Weak point of the pump is where the hose attaches the Flojet. Broke off, but was able to find a brass hose fitting at the local big box store and epoxied it in. Lived in the trailer for 9 months while the house was being built. After storage the pump will sometimes refuse to turn. A spray with wd40 frees it up.

That pump may see use on my pontoon house boat. 😁 The problem with tote tanks that no one ever talks about is that once it’s loaded, one way or another, is how do you keep the tank from flying around in the truck bed?!?! 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

super nice video but sure did miss Tara she is such a blessing . Nice to know if you are far away to be able to pump I long way and up hill. I would like to purchase one of those for my motorhome for just incases lol. Chad I think you did a great presentation of a product that could be needed at times as a full timer RVer. I really did not expect that small of a pump to pump that sewer reduced to a 5/8 garden hose but it did and done a great job. I can not see that small of a pump to do this . I could have used one at the farm to feed water up hill to the garden and only uses 12 VDC. Super great ideal as usual from a great person thanks for sharing this info with me.

Thanks, Jeff! 😊 The input side might be the issue when using it as a general purpose pump.. Since it's designed for a 3" bayonet. For that, you might want to look at the water pump we used here: changinglanesrv.com/rv-travel-day-problems/ Not sure if it has the power to pump 150 ft though...

I am pumping 300’ up a slight grade. I am using 3/4 hose and have had zero issue. I do put toilet paper in my tank and the pump has no problems dealing with that also. I was super nervous but the pump sounds no different from a 20’ length to the 300’. I would have to imagine it is harder on the pump but it sounded great. No thermal cutoff either. I did cut the pump off a few times to do a tank flush.

Great, just got one of these. I assume it's the old model. Not sure it will matter. We have an airstream and the dump connections are so low on the trailer there are lots of times I can't get the tanks to dump into my tote. I bought one of these and it makes the job much easier. I only have a 15' hose, but I think I'll get a 50' and start dumping into the tote loaded in the back of my truck. I like that idea instead of hauling the thing around.

I know this is quite a while since you posted this video, but I was able to find a macerator pump from Vevor that only cost $65. I only have about 75 feet to go to the sewer, and I use 1" flat blue "firehose" drain hose from it, and it has worked flawlessly (the hose rolls up flat and is easy to store). I was also wondering with your wiring skills Chad why you didn't just run a permanent 12 volt line close to your pump so all you have to do is plug it in! That's what I did.

If you have over 10 Feet of wire it needs to be larger than 12 awg. 10 awg is good for up to 20 feet.

Great test. Once the tank is empty, I think there is now 150ft of hose with waste water waiting to attack you when you disconnect the hose. May you should consider a valve on the hose end at the pump. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.
