They are an ancient species of flowering plants that grow submerged in all of the world’s oceans. Seagrasses link offshore coral reefs with coastal mangrove forests. Today, these “prairies of the sea,” along with mangroves, are on the decline globally. Scientists fear the diminishing vegetation could result in an ecosystem collapse from the bottom of the food chain all the way to the top. Changing Seas joins experts in the field as they work to restore Florida’s important mangroves and seagrasses.
Known as “hotspots of biodiversity,” seagrasses and mangroves attract and support a variety of marine life. However, worldwide damage and removal of these plants continue at a rapid pace. Changing Seas travels along Florida’s coastline to get a better understanding of the significant roles mangroves and seagrasses play within the state. Can biologists prevent a negative ripple-effect throughout the marine food web before it’s too late? How will rising sea levels impact these plants as well at the communities that depend on them?

I have always had a lot of respects for those people who invest their time, money and energy, at the level they can, to restore and preserve the natural environment. These are the kind of souls worthy of the sweet richness of the planet, the ones who should procreate the same caring and loving generation for the continuation of life on the planet.

My area in Florida has a pretty good amount of conservation lands but they are lacking in areas that mangroves grow. They are developing condos and not paying enough attention to the wildlife in the areas. Mud crabs migrate across the road pretty much every day and cars run them over. There are dozens and dozens of dead crabs on the road. They need more lands for the crabs between the condos and they need signage and lights in the migration areas. Preferably theyd have a bridge so the crabs could safely go underneath.

The Everglades Nature Preserve projects are great. Scientist should expand restoration projects like this one Worldwide. East & West coast Mexico coastlines of Africa, Spain, Indian Ocean, and more. Improving the environment in one area, and another, and another, is good for the whole planet.

They just divested the America Everglades restoration projects in Feb 2024 😥 It was the State 404 Program. floridadep.gov/water/submerged-lands-environmental-resources-coordination/content/state-404-program Florida submitted an appeal but doubt it'll be approved.
