Utterly heartbreaking. 'I'm saving up money in my piggy bank and I will try and lend her as much money as possible'. What an absolute darling Kai is. All these children deserve so much better. Only a failed society would allow this to happen.

That's a lovely thought. I'm sure that if you do some googling you should find charities looking for hosts. Someone across the road from my mum gave country holidays to children from inner cities for years, another friend hosted people for The Medical Foundation for Victims of Torture and gave them and often their families a holiday out of hostel accommodation in the city. Good luck with your good intentions! 🥰🕊️

It's heartbreaking. We were poor as children. Now I'm over 50 years old and I live very well. Still, I felt the pain these children feel after so many years. These teachers are wonderful, I also had a teacher who helped me a lot. I sat on her deathbed and cried and thanked her so much. She was my first lifesaver. I am sure when these children grow up they will never forget these teachers.

It is a myth like you said, so we can perpetuate this trickle down capitalism economics we have. Kasim’s older sister is incredible, I can’t believe she’s only 13. To have those financial fears at that age is just devastating. My mum was a single mum with myself and my younger brother and we struggled but I was never made aware of it. I was the same age as Kasim’s sister when we became a one parent family and I think I was so lucky to be sheltered from my mums worries. When I look back, all I can think of is how proud I am of my mum for allowing my brother and I to stay children for as long as we did. We were poor but blessed. I cried for these beautiful children, they’re not only robbed of little luxuries but robbed of their childhood too. This should never happen in a country as rich as this, it’s heartbreaking.

I understand what your saying and it sounds like your mum did an amazing job. We do live in a “rich” country where the “little luxeries” that these families have that a 3 Rd world countries would give anything for are 1. Food banks 2. Charity help 3. Free education - huge luxury many kids would do anything. For 4. Free housing - a lot of ppl in other country’ssleep on the street 5. Free money ie universal credits which consist of child benefit So I think it’s all perspective This is a rich country and it is doing a lot but only if you see past a luxury life and can these families can actually see what they are getting Tell them to live in a 3rd world country for a week and they won’t come back unappreciative rather prob motivated to do better Everybody is so caught up with keeping up with the Jones’s that they think their life is so bad Stop comparing to other people, the government which takes our taxpayers money looks after you Of course your not going to get get everything on top of the basics if you did then why would anyone work? Why would anyone bother doing anything Of course human instinct would be to take the easy route If you want luxuries work hard and take the hard route

This video is a perfect example of why children end up being drug runners or dealers. Grow up with nothing and you can become vulnerable to the idea of quick money, therefore more at risk of being groomed by high end dealers. If a young kid gets offered 100 a day when they've grown up in poverty then most will snatch that chance
@MissG8340

I agree but again comes down to education, support and parental guidance Easy money has bad consequences and they need to realise that It’s all just a vicious cycle and I feel it’s just a blame game where ppl end up moaning and whinging as opposed to actually doing anything about it Action needs to be taken not them being spoon fed everything even though they are They don’t have to pay for a lot of things someone who doesn’t have benefits do so there’s absolutely no excuse for lack of opportunities If you see they moan about about a bigger house whereas given their situation financially they should appreciate having a roof and being kept safe they should be being taught that so they can appreciate what they do have and work hard for a better future for themselves

I don’t care what religion a person is, what county they come to the UK from children are children, innocent and dependant. It’s heart wrenching to see these little people suffering instead of enjoying being kids and their youth which should be their best years. Rental prices are scandalous in the UK and should be capped. Food prices cost of living it’s literally unmanageable when you work let alone when you can’t. Everybody’s situations is different but at the end of the day it’s these little babies who are feeling the pain and it’s this which turns young people in to drug dealers, runners and to crime. The knock on effect from such living conditions can continue way in to adulthood and beyond often affecting one’s mental health. We need change right now to alter the future for our next generation and beyond. There’s a section of this video with a little boy on the park crying, I don’t care who you are, that will touch a nerve for anybody who witnesses it. No child anywhere should ever suffer over something as simple as basic living. Tonight when I sit down for a meal I’ll as usual think of all those out there who won’t have that, this disturbs me an awful lot. I pray for change although I’m pretty optimistic about the possibility..

Kids shouldnt be to blame for their actions, their parents should for allowing their child to ever believe its acceptable to act in any ill manor✊🏾 if my kid grows up and leaves the house with a knife and kills someone, i failed as a parent. It used to be the case that people traditionally at risk of ending up on the streets were running away from abusive relationships, struggled with mental illness, or had substance abuse problems. This is no longer the case. Even relationship breakdowns didn't previously cause homelessness as housing was affordable, even for a single-earning household. The cost of living is now so high that people struggle to get on the housing ladder without the privilege of someone helping them out, either by letting them stay with them for very low rent or by helping them with a deposit. This puts poor people at the mercy of landlords who have the right to sell their property with a month's notice or raise rents consistently over time. It also used to be the case that if you worked full time, you could pay rent, bills, food, save for emergencies, and still have enough money left over to go on holiday. 14 years of Tory rule has seen the biggest reduction in the quality of life in 150 years. People need to understand that everyone is at risk of homelessness and poverty if made redundant or they become seriously ill or have a serious accident due to the cost of living crisis. I don't understand why people are so quick to blame people desperately struggling when they should really be pointing the finger at the government.

Should you be automatically entitled to money because you are on drink, or are on drugs? Should you be automatically entitled to money because you opened your legs and had 2,3,4,5 children? Should you be automatically entitled to money if you play the mental health card? I won't judge anybody but when more of society are on drugs and then claim mental illness years after, genuine people in need fall behind because the system is just overwhelmed with claimants rising by the hour.

There's no reason why parents can't work. I dont know if the system has changed now, but I worked after I had my youngest daughter. I didn't have to, but I worked many jobs whilst my daughter went to nursery. I worked in between the times of her nursery. You can work between school times and look for help for care between these times. You can ask for help to look after your children whilst you're at work. There is no excuse not to work. It's harsh, I know, but I've done it. The first lads step dad, what's he doing? Is he working? My middle son struggled at school, and I helped him get to be in a better place. Helped him with his English at the time and school projects. We moved from England to Wales, he went to college and then studied at university. He now has a degree in computer science and also works with good money. He lived with his dad for a while when he was younger. His dad was a bit of a bum back then, didn't want to work, and suffered with mental health. So he didn't do too well at school. I worked all hours for my kids. Why can't others do the same? Don't suck on the benefits, work!

I am coming from Bulgaria. There was no universal credit, no housing and even now is very little help, but at 15 I was already working hard the land that had little money value but gave us food. In Eastern Europe not many are waiting for the government to step in and replace parents responsibilities. By 20, if you are not coming from a wealthy family, you know how to run a household, basic plumbing, carpeting and you work from the dawn until dusk. Channel 4 should do a similar documentary in Eastern Europe so they can learn a thing or two about poverty.

I am from Poland. When I was 6, I already helped at my grandparents' farm. We had food on the farm, so we were self-sufficient. I also helped take care of my siblings while everyone was working. But eventually, I had to leave - I had no prospects. I came to the UK when I was 16 and worked there since then. Eventually, I finished my education here. I lived in an ex-council flat, sharing accommodation with many working folks. Life was harsh. But in the end, I got lucky. I got into University, and now I no longer have to work insane hours (today, things are much more challenging because competition is fierce). But the whole journey had an enormous impact on my mental health, and I didn't have kids because I didn't want to put them through the same thing. You are right. We learned much about survival in Eastern Europe because no one gave us anything. So, you pick up all the skills you can to survive. During my life, I even worked at a nuclear reactor site. Still, I feel sad for the people who struggle. They want to have families and decent lives, but life is brutal and unfair for many. How can this problem be solved? Well, I certainly won't count on politicians. I am a working immigrant; I was a "problem" in Poland because I was born there, and I am a "problem" in the UK because I am a foreigner. So, what is left for me is to learn how to dissaparate, but that's what I will learn at Hogwarts. Wish me luck.

Literally. Kids are not a necessity in life. It’s not like food, working, housing. It’s also people that they have kids, multiple, while they’re maybe in a better financial position but they don’t have savings in the background to support multiple kids IF they were to lose their job/house etc .. which seems to be an issue here. Idk why you’d ever have ONE child unless you had insane savings to begin with, a property of your own/good rental situation. People don’t properly plan to bring children into the world, regardless that yes poverty can happen to anyone, but to willingly be ignorant and subject children to this is somewhat irresponsible and selfish when you’re already on a low income situation to begin with. If you struggle to take care of yourself, or rent on your own, don’t create more lives.

Families living in worsening poverty but the Tories continue to cut benefit payments, leaving many with zero payments in some months, visiting food banks as they don’t even have money in their paltry benefits to buy food. The Tories dictate benefit levels are enough when the total for a family is less than half what a Tory MP pays for their child to go to their posh private school! Sickening!

£8 per person per day is five times more than I’m left with! We work, and we are still struggling! My rents paid for, but behind everything else! I’m a single mum of 1, and registered disabled with epilepsy. But I get my wages for part time & ESA. We get on with it because we have to! But the worst system is child maintenance. I get £4.25 a month, £3500 in arrears and he works full time. If they sorted that system then more single parents wouldn’t struggle as much

Let me get this straight, your government took taxpayers money to invade their countries and now you’re annoyed that they’ve left their country to seek a better life for themselves after you destroyed their homes? It’s only fair that you have to pay for them now, the rest of the world sees it as compensation. Maybe stay in your own lane, stop interfering in other countries politics and looting less militarily able countries of their riches and people wouldn’t have to leave their own homes to seek refuge elsewhere 🤷‍♀️

If he didnt use his 13 yr old daughter as a surrogate wife she wouldnt have to be worrying and bills , rent and his other issues..instead of keeping his problems to himself, hes had a wife shoulder to cry on, with her gone he uses his daughter as a sounding post..his weakness causes her stresses she doesnt need and shouldnt be having.

You are so right. If he hadn't told her, she wouldn't even notice their problems. She doesn't talk to other children, she doesn't have a clue how other families live. Those kids are poor, they are not blind or thick. And Nayla I very intelligent, observant and caring. She finished primary school as one of top students despite her difficult situation at home. Judging by your comment she is way more mature than you are. Grow up.

She clearly says they were evicted from private accommodation and that's why she's worried it might happen again. All he said that because they are in temporary accommodation they might be told anytime to pack up. There's no indication that he is burdening her with their problems. You have an issue with this particular family and that has sth to do with you not them.

Benefits exist and they have a roof over their heads and clothing, for that migrant family , it's more than what they got back in their land of birth. Your kids are not my financial problem. You have them, you deal with them, not expect the state to be your baby's daddy.

Some of this is the parents fault, if you breed like rats you when you don’t have the money to get a bigger home then that’s not the councils fault it’s the parents, putting their children in homes not suitable for them. If you don’t have money to move don’t keep having multiple children you can’t afford because they suffer unnecessarily which isn’t ok. I feel so sorry for the children they should not have to worry about money or about food or heating they should only be worrying about being a child, that little boy that said about borrowing money to his mummy from his piggy bank made me feel so sad for him but also so heart warmed how kind he is in his heart. It will understandably affect their learning because of worrying about problems the adults should be dealing with.

Whilst I think it's important for children to have some degree of their own family's predicament, there is no need for them to be so acutley aware of how dismal their parents situation might be. They should be sheltered from the burden of their parents financial problems. They're children, and deserve to be free of that worry.

Rent should be capped in the United States too. Many people are homeless because they can't afford rent and are working with kids in school and daycare. Government cut extra food stamps but pay from jobs has plummeted. Just shameful of the Government. No one knew the pandemic was coming and they have burned through their savings. Sigh. I'm just praying for everyone. Everyone can pay someone a compliment every day. Be kind and willing to step up to help those that can't. ❤❤

I grew up through the 60's and 70's hungry, thin and picked on, considered an outcast because my parents were poor. and society with the government, kept us there. How my poor Father suffered just for us as a family with only condemnation from my Mother due to having to live in poor housing, vehicles, tents, caravans etc, and the worry of where to move next with little to no finances. Schools even rejected us and the ones we actually went to became a fear zone as bullying and nonrecognition of educational needs seemed to be the way of life due to the stupidity of others. No child should have to go through what I went through, this is supposed to be the 21st Century.

I didn’t see one example in this documentary of what the adults were doing to better their own situation. It was all about how they were not getting enough support. We forget that outside of Western Europe, if you don’t work you don’t eat or get a roof over your head. I didn’t see anyone starving, shivering or without cloths. What I did see was parents not working and having large family’s they can’t afford to sustain. These kids are far better off than 10s of millions. Yet the only stress I see on them is discussing their parents problems. Talking about rent! That’s parents putting that on their kids. Not dealing with their own shortcomings.
