@@chesterwig This is what a lot of the 9/11 truth movement brought up. The FBI have been creating these terrorist attacks for decades. Look at the first world trade centre bombing where the FBI were caught to have created and carried out the entire operation from the making of the terrorists to the making of the bombs and the whole plot all along. Look up Operation Northwoods too where they show they are willing and able to carry out operations like this on their own people.

That was the most sobering, direct, clear-cut analysis on the war on terrorism over the last 18 years I've ever heard on a public news channel. Kudos to Channel 4 for having a 15-minute discussion on the topic, and many kudos to Chris for his deeply insightful analysis.

stephen stewart His entire point, along with the entire plot of his movie, answers that question. The FBI target these pathetic social outcasts, plans out a terrorist attack, psychologically influences them to carry it out, supplies them with all the technical know how and all the supplies, then arrests them as they start to carry it out. It’s the manipulation of previously non-dangerous idiots into carrying out a literal terrorist attack, just so the FBI can look like they’re good at catching terrorists. How do you not have a problem with that?

@stephen stewart They do the same thing here in Australia all the time in order to justify the BS war on terror and the erection of a police state that's true purpose is the targetting of dissidents, as they are fearful of social unrest as the economy is about to completely tank. Dr Haneef, Mambou Habib, David Hicks are just a few scapegoats that come to mind, while Schapelle Colby was set up in order to curry favor with the Indonesians, who were promoting a law an order campaign. "I don't really see the point of comedy unless there's something underpinning it. I mean what are you doing? Are you doing some kind of exotic display for the court, to be patted on the head by the court, or are you trying to change something? The problem is that I think we've got used to a kind of satire which essentially placates the court. You do a nice dissection of the way things are in the orthodox elite, and lo and behold, you get slapped in the back by the orthodox elite who say 'jolly good, can you do us another one'. That's not what it is about so in a way these times should bring on something with a bit more clout. It's about the thrust, and it's really about whether the people you're lancing can get off your spike." - Chris Morris Perfectly said about the point of satire and why so many satires fall flat if they just placate or just roast the court.

Chris Morris takes satire too seriously now, though, doesn't he? Utopian thinking like "it can change society" etc. has meant that his work has lost its comedy. Chris Morris, brillant discussion, thank you. Please, Chris, turn your attention to adoption and child social services where the same thing is happening: abusive parents are being missed by the system, loving parents are being targeted, destroyed, and their children taken away. A starting point for the services would be if, for instance, the child is having difficulty in school, struggling with anxiety. The parents are blamed, and abuse charges are manufactured. The services then keep their adoption statistics on target, and look like they are being effective. The occasional child who is murdered by their abusive families looks like they slipped through the net, when the isn't a net.

I have great respect for what Chris Morris does. He's a great artist who, like many others, feels inspired by current events and imagines he is making some sort of a difference in the cosmic scheme. As I get older i do start to realise there is a big difference between those who are charged with great responsibilty to lead a country, or run the FBI or lead a police force, and those who are critics of these huge organisations. It's all very well to sit on the side and say how stupid those in power are, but it's quite another to step up and take responsibility to try to do something about it yourself. Morris gives the impression that the real problems in society are that those in power are either evil or stupid, and doesn't seem to realise that there are really difficult obstacles to solve in society and also that there are problems in the world that do not find their source with the rich and powerful white guys running the show. This is essentially the problem with the class of people Morris belongs to, the over-educated left wing artistic bubble. Also, to answer one of his questions directly, the point of comedy without a political message is to make people laugh and increase the overall joy in the world, and what is a more noble cause than that?
