Strangely, I picked it up first and was pleasantly surprised, then went looking for a review to see if anyone else liked it. I really enjoyed your review, which addressed all the things that I liked and disliked about it. I would only add, that the colors are vibrant and it was refreshing to see colors pop out like this. On a less positive note, I was a little disappointed by the over sexualization of some female fighters and background characters. I am not offended by it, but I thought, it was a bit much sometimes. Thanks again for the great review.

David Paillet good to hear you enjoyed the review and thanks for checking it out! I would totally agree with you on the colors popping and the over sexualization, it’s somewhat part of the genre I do find and it’s an older game. Hermès is particularly over the top and I agree I should have pointed that out!

Budget my ass. Chaos Code is the best anime fighter on the market. It’s an anime fighter but plays closer to KOF and has some of the best character designs for a fighter I’ve seen since Darkstalkers. If only the music didn’t fade loop ☹️

Budget only in price! It wasn’t a comment on the game lol! I really enjoyed this one, I could have happily payed double the price though if it threw in some good old online. My go to fighters Blazblue and cross tag while not the best and throws in under night and a few others is under $5 on the eshop right now...it’s a steal!

As a rather devoted KOF fan i can agree, it not nearly as tight or fleshed out as KOF but i can see some parallels

To give more context and also elaborate/correct upon some regards: Future & Knowledge Digital (FK Digital) is an ex-Australian/Taiwanese developer that started out life as Team FK, a doujin dev who are known for the likes of Super Cosplay Wars, Fighters Kyodotai, etc. with Chaos Code being their first commercial project. A few years back, there was a split in the company's staff where a portion of them wished to return to doujin developments and thusly branched off into becoming Border Violation and subsequently developing the doujin fighting game, Angels of Battle. Chaos Code actually began development back in the 90's, hence its old-school aspect ratio & animation style, under the direction of the company's second-in-command/co-creator, Michael Lin (RIP), and took until August '11 owing to development hell with office relocation, loss of sprite work & the general difficulties of being an independent developer. I believe the publishing deal with Arcsys was a later thing and admittedly, these guys are Arcsys fanboys so it's not a surprising turn of events. There was a sequel in the works for a while but was cancelled after Mickey Lin, the creator/first-in-command of FKD, closed up shop owing to depression/grief over his brother's death. Despite that, a new version - Exact Xeno Attack - is intended for the Exa-Arcadia hardware when that releases. As an actual game, there were a few things that went unmentioned here: - The game's chaining system ("Chaos Combo") goes A > B > C > D > Special > Super - Chaos Cancel is the act of cancelling a special into a super at the cost of 2 bars, overall, whilst also restoring damage scaling back up to 70%. - Chaos Shift is a pseudo-RC that's available during supers; it can be a bit specific as to when one can use it but it - Exceed Chaos is an additional mode, where at the expense of all 3 bars, grants you health regen, freezes the clock and also unlimited EX Specials/supers (at cost of the timer) for a total of 15 seconds where it'll be temporarily met by an Overheat state in which no meter can be gained. - To give more clarity on the extra moves, there are two specials & two supers with all of them being personalised to each character alongside a Run (a la KOF) or Step (a la SF) movement option. Run provides more mobility and flexibility whereas Step brings slightly faster meter build and dash cancels to compensate for mobility (Celia and Cthylla withstanding.) For a brief synopsis of the characters: - The shotos are Hikaru (rushdown-oriented with a counter hit/whiff punishment element) & Kagari (ninja and more akin to traditional shoto) - The rushdown characters are the Hikarus, Celia II Kai (or simply Kai), Rui, Ray & Lupinus. - The grappler is Bravo. - The puppet character is Cait & Sith. - The zoners are Hermes, Celia, Cthylla & Kudlak-SIN. - Catherine's the setplay monster of the game. - Vein's the midrange monster of the game with slight zoning/setplay prospects to boot. As to the game's scene and matchmaking, here is where one can find its players: discord.gg/GUBw4mv It's predominantly played via the Steam version therein but there are people with the Switch version also, of whom can be netplayed against through the use of XLink Kai (a LAN emulator you can run that works for the OG Xbox all the way up to modern hardware.)

i didnt know there was a switch release. this game was always fun and under rated. to be critical about the combat system, one thing I find kinda odd from is that sometimes you trade hits and theres enough hitstun that you get full combos off a trade at times. the main thing is it's odd playing a fighting game with a lot of combos, and air dash pace gameplay, but no burst mechanic, and dizzies, as well as chip kills. it can lead to some bullshit sometimes. its possible to get TOD combos from dizzying opponent and having meter.

Yeah I’d say somewhere between that and blazblue but it’s a lot more ground based than anything not quite as flashy. I’d say easier too. I play with a fight stick personally for the most part and both are great though, I strongly recommend both too but if I had to choose one I’d lean into under night

I dont mind the lack of online play, because there would likely be no one to match up with anyway, since the game is so obscure. Now, local 2 player however, that is a must. It looks cool. I like what little story there is, and the designs look nice. I also appreciate them using the side bars for move inputs. Genius

As a fan of guilty gear This is not even a budget. Chaos code has what Guilty Gear lost long ago.

Guilty Gear S. is innovating none-the-less. I do want the UI to stay same I have it archived on my HDD just incase i do not like future updates. The devs have a history of making their game more appealing to so-called hardcore players which instead just seem like compainers.
@AlexLoeding
@AlexLoeding 2 жыл бұрын
I enjoy your channel’s content but I’m so sorry, I really can’t keep quiet. The words said on this videos thumbnail has me furious. “Budget Guilty Gear”? Come on now! Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe is not a budget Guilty Gear! It’s one of the few great traditional 2D anime fighters on switch. It’s not as good as Under Night In Birth Exe Late CLR or Melty Blood: Type Lumina. But it’s surely much more enjoyable than any title in the Guilty Gear or BlazBlue series! That’s just my opinion. I respect the people who stick with Guilty Gear and BlazBlue as their main fighting game title but for me I just couldn’t get into them no matter how much I try. Comparing any Anime Fighting Game to an insanely complex series like guilty gear just isn’t fair. I might try getting into BlazBlue Central Fiction again. Man it’s so hard. Thanks for giving CHAOS CODE some attention. It is highly underrated and needs more exposure! This game is not a budget guilty gear but it’s a great anime fighting game!!!
@SwitchCorner
@SwitchCorner 2 жыл бұрын
I guess my thought path behind the ‘budget’ part wasn’t necessarily to put the game down but rather, give a name that will drive more attention to the video and the game because it deserves it. The budget was more down to entry point with the $10 price tag or whatever it was at the time
@AlexLoeding
@AlexLoeding 2 жыл бұрын
@@SwitchCorner it’s all good man! I was mostly just messing with you. Sorry for that! I see your reasoning now though. Makes total sense! Thanks! For Anime Fighters I’m huge into Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late CLR, Melty Blood: Type Lumina, and Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe. Even Dragon Ball FighterZ if that’s considered an anime fighter, it’s more of a tag fighter. I also am trying to get into BlazBlue Central Fiction and I like it more than I initially did but not sure if it’s my jam. Never had the chance to get into Guilty Gear so I’m not one to judge or anything. You do you it’s all good! You helped me decide to try chaos code so thank you. Great channel. Keep it up! I appreciate it.

You really overemphasize Arc System Works. I get that they're the publishers, but you barely mention the actual devs, FK Digital. It doesn't feel right to brush FK D aside when they're the ones that actually made this game just because ArcSys is more recognizable.
