Synopsis: Set in the 1850s, the series follows Captain Charles Boone (Adrien Brody) who relocates his family of three children to his ancestral home in the small, seemingly sleepy town of Preacher’s Corners, Maine after his wife dies at sea. However, Charles will soon have to confront the secrets of his family’s sordid history, and fight to end the darkness that has plagued the Boones for generations.
Based on the Short Story 'Jerusalem's Lot' by Stephen King.

This show was highly underrated. Maybe because it's set in an older time, utilizing character development and not proving repetitive jump scares is the reason for so many bad reviews. Stands to show that you can't please everyone.

"Jerusalem's Lot" is one of my favorite Stephen King short stories, I am so excited it was adapted for TV! Plus who can resist Adrian Brody ❤️

Salem’s Lot? I read that book in the late 80s or early 90s I believe. Was so excited when my (then) fiancé told me it was made into a movie by the same name. The movie SUCKED lol. I kept yelling at my tv “that’s not how it happened” or “you left out the best scene here” over and over. Can’t ever beat the book. If this series is about Salems Lot…I must watch it immediately. Especially since all the comments I’ve read so far are nothing but praise.

This is how you do gothic horror, no jump scares, no over the top gore or snuff ... good old suspense. I really enjoyed this show, felt familiar and still fresh. The main character is not some stoic idiot, who has the compassion and intellect of a rock. The man is an awesome father, especially his daughters are very lucky to have him as a parent. He has his own morals and standards, he refuses to participate in misogyny, racism and superstitious bs - which puts an even bigger target on his back. His childhood trauma didn't turn him into a whiney loser who blames everybody else for his shortcomings in life, instead he grew up to be a decent and determined human being.

Thank you EPIX for something exciting, thrilling well written and engaging. I love this series. Costumes and sets are terrific. Acting is authentic. It kept me on the adage of my seat.

I got EPIX just to see this, as I am a fan of Stephen King's work. This series is perfect! It captured the creepiness and dread of the story. It is filmed beautifully. The sets, costumes, and excellent performances of all the actors is stellar! I love it. Thank you for such a wonderful television series.

I just started watching chapelwaite. I just finished watching episode 3 of Season 1. am enjoying it, it's really good. Don't tell me there is only one Season though?. Is so hard to find really good stuff to watch, so is always nice when one comes upon a golden gem.

I've just watched 9th episode and I can say that I really love this series even though I'm not interested in vampire stories. Also, any movie or series can be automatically better with Adrien Brody.

My guess this story will indirectly set up for Salem's Lot maybe the Marsten House where Barlow sets up shop over a century later due to the previous presence of vampires.

@@timblahblahblah4904 Are you aware that this is based on King's short story of the same name? And from the trailer I should say: yes, they definitely read that story. They will have to add stuff to turn a short story into a several episode show / mini-series, but I'm all for that - the short story has some great characters, I'd love for them to get some screen time.

I loved the story. I loved the cinematography. The time period was spot on. And while I usually enjoy Adrien Brody in most things he does I couldn't get over the fact he whisper talked throughout most of this show. I mean I know vampires turn into bats and bats have exceptional hearing but the whispering got to be a bit much. Once you notice it you can't unnotice it so I apologize in advance for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Great show in all but for God sakes Brody speak up.

@@tisiyoungnickolai9780 I think you notice it more when you've got a child sleeping and you constantly turn up the volume to hear his dialog then action scene comes along unexpected and wakes the dead it's so loud. I enjoyed the show but my ears were definitely strained with Brody.

Almost at the end of this show and I’m very picky person, but this one has good dark atmosphere here so big thumbs up if you like this type of story’s especially for details and how actors play here !

I started reading "Night Shift" and read this short story yesterday. This looks bit different from the original story but still it looks great! Jerusalem's Lot is one hell of a story. Hope this show delivers.

He's killing it as Charles Boon! (Still wish they would have adapted the original story with Adrien as Boon, would have been dope!)

A sad ending in this show with vampires and humans and for sure made for another season in our modern days when vampires live forever. A sequel like that would be great.

They might be deviating towards vampires more in this show, which isn't a bad thing. There were vampires in the story, but they weren't the main threat. The original story is a little too out there considering it's based on Salem's Lot.

I hope they keep the vampires and not replace them with zombies instead. Hopefully the budget will allow for the "main threat" to be realized on screen and not look terrible. WIthout the "main threat" the story is just a vampire story. But it becomes a true Lovecraftian tale when all goes to Heck at the end (credit to Robert Bloch for coming up with De Vermis Mysteriis).

It's not based on Salem's Lot. It's based on Jerusalem's Lot which is a short story in King's "Night Shift". It's his first Lovecraft story. It's a lot like Lovecraft's "The Rat's in the Walls". FWIW>

I am looking forward to this adaptation but I hope they didn't take too many liberties with the story. I hope they keep the monsters as vampires and not zombies because they are the "in" creature these days. I also hope they didn't remove the church battle with the big bad monster and the reference to the grimoire De Vermis Mysteriis. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Large blocks of ice would be harvested from frozen lakes and rivers. Then it would be stored in buildings known as 'ice houses'. It was mainly used for food storage and not so much for beverages.

It shouldn't be Barlow if they are keeping true to the story. However, it is "All in the Family" if they don't make that change.

@@franktroise4386 Barlow won't be in it because "Salem's lot" and "Chapelwick" are being produced by two separate studios ( Warner Bros and Epix). But I wouldn't be surprised if there's an easter egg or two between the films connecting both stories.

The Short story this is based on should be standalone story but in same universe if i remember correctly.

There are actually two stories in Stephen King's short story collection Night Shift that take place in "Salem's Lot", the one Jerusalem's Lot, upon which Chapelwaite is based upon and acts somewhat of a unconnected story that takes place in the same town in the mid 19th century, and the other is One for the Road, which is more of a sequel to Salem's Lot.

Salems Lott ,mother fucka it got me in 81 maybe later .6 Channel TV 3 parts 1st part the window, 2 part you see the master .47 have on blu ray friends to ask why you buy the same reason what it did to you except I enjoy it. Hopefully it won't just end Castle Rock ? was good touching stuff.Lisey good Stand liked it but bit weak for some i reckon .Nice to see Stephen books getting Shows and his son .The S.O.A he was brilliant in.

Pretentious crappy drudge like Midnight Mass. Like MM, Chapelwaite is another modern rehash of Stephen King’s early novel Salem’s Lot. First there’s a fairly realistic setting, and then silly stupid vampires appear.

It just takes it's time creating mood and tension. Not every horror show has to be blood and guts from the get go. Perhaps AHS would be better suited for you.
