Very interesting and knowledgeable presentation, but 480p?? It doesn't do justice to the works featured. Also at times, the red cursor would stay idle on the painting while you were shifting speaking about another topic than what the cursor was pointing at. Nevertheless, your video help me even better appreciate Joan Mitchell works. Thanks a lot for this.

joan mitchell was a big one, not one of the painters you got learned by a "oh and theres also was..btw".

Ali Yes. But you do not have to like this or paint like this. ; - ) People who like this are not necessarily snob or fools. Some who love these paintings and have the means are ready to pay millions for at least one of them... ------------ Edit for a better answer to your question To make a long story short: Yes and No. You do not need to go to college to become a good writer or painter. But going to an art college can help to become a better visual artist by studying art history, aesthetics, art theories, composition, etc. ------------- 3rd edit... I went to your channel and checked your ''Art Tutorials'' playlist... This ''artist'' is a great painter... His works are surely worth to be sold at dollar stores... Lot of complex colors in them, etc...

you don’t have to, but you need to have the curiosity and inquisitiveness to delve into the questions of why artists make things the way that they do-- and it all boils down to how open you are into how to see things beyond the way they are. A lot of people scoff off abstract art, but there are great abstract artists who actually begun with figuration and are actually skilled or at least know how to paint or draw, but eventually felt like the pictorial aspect of their vision was too limited and trapped within the confines of the definitive and the figurative. Hence, they end up pretty much freeing themselves from those confines, so they can better pursue their own visual language.

a good example is Gerhard Richter. If you look and study the progression of his works, you would be able to understand why he creates art the way he does. Another important thing is to not look and judge an artist’s work alone, but to put into perspective where that work falls in line and progression with their work. A huge part of actually being an artist is the art-making process, because that’s where you’ll see that an artist is not just the work, but the contents of work they’ve made in their life.
