Fiiiinally getting this video published after months off. But as promised, here is an intro to my weaving style on a rigid heddle loom! I'm working a wallhanging here with a painted warp, plainweave structure, and a few tapestry techniques.

You can always weave one wide or 3 or 4 narrower strips of card into a wide space to weave up against, which makes that gap far more stable, and makes it easier to keep it horizontal. Lovely warp.

I love that idea! I'll give it a shot next time.

I really enjoyed your video. I love to see how other people express themselves through textiles, so I'm your 99th subscriber. Oh yeah, and so long as the end results satisfy you, you are not doing anything 'wrong'. Use the tools the way they best suit your proscess.

Do you ever get about halfway through, and suddenly think of some even more inspiring colourways? and want to finish this one off quickly...

Hahaha yes! All the time. Or I find a new pattern and want to try that but I'd have to change my threading.

@@marykatealsvig Lol. It's as though the mere act of weaving itself lets new inspiration bubble up. Very meditative in a way 🙂 I learnt new techniques watching your video, many thanks!

On winding bobbins, (you might already know this!) if you have a drill…..place a pencil or dowel (whatever your bobbin will fit on) where the drill bit goes and tada! Bobbin winder.

I'll have to go back to Ch. 5 to see how you did the painting, I'm very curious. Please don't hate the attempt at constructive criticism - I noticed that when you beat the weft, you put a lot more force to the left side of the reed, causing a left sinking angle in the weave. A helpful hint I've gotten is to grab the reed in the middle when you beat to keep it straight.

No hate! I actually noticed that as well. I also think my tension was looser towards the left so it made it a lot easier to put more force there.Luckily it all evened out when I steamed it. I'll try holding in the middle next time, thanks!
