In this episode, we're going to show you how you can charge all your Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 DualSense, and Xbox Series S/X controllers from one dock thanks to Dobe & ECHZOVE.
Owning multiple video game systems is terrific until you need to charge all the different controllers that is. While I own charging docks for my Switch Pro Controller, my PS5 DualSense Controller, and my Xbox Series S controllers, it would be super convenient if I could simply charge, say, my Switch and my Xbox controller off of the same dock. First-world problem, I know. thanks to the team at Dobe & ECHZOVE, I can now potentially do this.
The charging dock is simple in it's design, featuring two USB-C dongles to connect to your controller and then plug into the dock itself. The inside of the dock is shaped and scalloped in such a way that it should hold multiple controller designs securely. The face of the unit features a two-tone LED light to indicate charge status, and there are also two LED bands around the front and rear portion of the body for the same purpose. Overall, simple yet effective.
Inside the box you will get the charger itself, an instruction manual, and a charging cable. While the dongles are USB-C, the charge cord is micro USB. That's very concerning and disappointing. Micro USB cannot carry as much current, and it also is a less durable connection. I really wish they would have gone with USB-C, but thanks to some recent projects I have some spare USB-C sockets which I might be able to replace this micro USB connector with.
Up first was testing it out with my Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. The USB-C dongle was a bit of a tight fit and it did not seem like it went all the way into the controller. My Pro Controller was actually fully charged so I wasn't able to tell right away if it was charging or not. I did also test out first-party Xbox and PlayStation Dualsense controllers, and they worked well too. Finally, I tested out some third-party controllers from KMD, Gulikit, and the Retro Fighters defender. I'm pleased to say they all worked, although the KingKong 2 did not have the best fitment in the dock
Why it RoX:
- Budget-friendly
- Extra USB-C dongles available if needed
- Charge indicator lights
- Compatible with first and third-party controllers
What could be improved:
- Micro USB for power, yuck
- Vertical display can be hard to read at an angle
- Some fitment issues with a few third-party controllers
Should you buy one?
For the money, I think this is overall a really nice charging dock and simplifies things for me. While I have individual charging docks for my Switch, PS5, and Xbox, I'd like one where I could just charge a single Xbox and switch controller. this does that for me. I'm really not a fan of the micro USB for power, but fortunately, I'm in a position where I can potentially rewire this. Most people are not. The fully vertical display can also be a little challenging to see when standing, but that is where the LED bands on the front and back of the unit assist. For under $30 you have a very nice charging unit that resists tipping over and holds your controller securely. What more can you ask for?
